Holman is a really good pitcher. Skenes was a fastball pitcher. A lot of times he received a bad call from the HP ump which resulted in another pitch. Sometimes those pitches were hits which led to runs.
I’m glad that Holman transferred to LSU. His addition helps the pitching have depth that has not been had in while.

he’s not Skenes, and threads like this are really unfair to him.
Its not that serious HC. Just thought it would drive some good discussion seeing their stats side by side. Might even surprise some folks to see YTD Holman has been better
Just goes to show there's more than 1 way to succeed pitching in CBB.
If we're talking straight up comp, Nola is probably more apples to apples. And i think we'd all be happy w/ a Nola type season outta Luke

They're right, there wont be another Skenes, Holman might just be better.
I don't think so. But that isn't a knock. Only time will tell.
Another stat, Skenes threw strikes 68.9% of the time after 4 games, That dropped to 66% by season's end. Holman's is currently at 63.6%.
More data after 4 games,
Holmann:
85 batter faced
5 singles
3 doubles
3 HBP
1 WP
14 Fly-Outs
16 Ground Outs
Skenes:
86 batter faced
6 singles
1 double
1 HR
1 HBP
1 WP
14 Fly-Outs
10 Ground Outs

Holman reminds me of Aaron Nola. He has similar speed, smarts, control, 4 pitches, and they all have great movement.

Honk, youll have your heartbroken if you expect holman to keep pace with skenes. With that said, yes, the Nola comp is the best one i can think of. Maybe a slightly lesser Nola

Whats nice is that with this staff our ace doesnt have to be quite Skenes level for us to make a deep run. Holman is a stud and worth of the Ace title for this team. Best staff we have had in a long time and they are carrying the team.

Yea but let’s see what happens when Jay mysteriously sits him before game time.

I still think that what will separate Skenes from about anyone else is what he did in Omaha.

If you never saw Skenes pitch in person, you just don’t know…

I like Holman, but are you just going to ignore that Skenes has 20% more strikeouts in the same number of innings?
And infinitely more runs allowed.

Holman is a very good pitcher but doesn’t have near the “it” factor Skenes had.
Skenes on the bump was border line unfair. Not just through for relatively easy games but through and entire season.
When opposing coaches start to move their rotation to avoid having their ace pitch against Holman we can begin to have a conversation about comparing the two.

Saying Holman will be better is not needed. The fact that Holman has basically matched Skenes start of the season so far is impressive enough.
Some on here have speculated Holman is just keeping Friday night warm for Jump. I don't see that happening personally. I think Holman is locked in as the Friday night guy.

No, not that nebulous “it” factor!
By “it” you mean skills and the actual performance metrics.
Is that “it”?

What’s scary is Holman did not have his best stuff last night and still didn’t give up a hit.

You should write for the advocate because that’s about as useful as the questions Koki or whomever works there would ask.
