No, he won’t be better. He won’t be as good. But his results might be. I still think that what will separate Skenes from about anyone else is what he did in Omaha.

ETA: What else will separate them, if anything, will be the better competition in SEC play.

Let’s see how this shakes out through SEC play.

That’s where Skenes proved his mettle

The difference is a 102 mph fast ball

Definitely not comparing their stuff. Skenes obviously has him beat there.

Like others have said, we'll see when it come sto SEC play... although this wont be Luke's first rodeo on Friday nights in the SEC

Let us know when Holman dots up 102 on the outside black and follows it up with an 88 mph slider at the knees.

Until that happens, no. He won’t be better. Comparable is as close as he will get.

Not just that, but it was still 99 in the 8th after 100 pitches. And you can get away with a “mistake” over the plate at 100 against good SEC hitters that you can’t at 92-94. I loooooove Holman, watching him pitch is an absolute joy. And I think he’s good enough to be SEC pitcher of the year, if not national. But Skenes was literally a once in generation guy.

Holman has elite control, I enjoy watching him pitch. His ability to locate and pitch backwards is phenomenal.

In no way am I knocking Holman because he’s got experience in the SEC and is a great pitcher but legends are made in May and June. The last 4 games are what matters and that’s where he needs to match Skenes if he wants to be mentioned in the same breath. Do not take this as a shot at Holman because he’s a great pitcher but Feb/March baseball isn’t the same as May/June baseball.

I’ve always said that college baseball is different. You can dominate as a control pitcher. I you hit your spots and have good breaking stuff and you don’t have to be overly powerful.

Love what Holman is doing so far. I feel like he is going to have a special season. I’ve got to make it to some Friday games this year.

I didn’t get to see Skenes pitch until regionals last season.

Holman’s margin for error is much smaller & SEC play will open that up a bit

Why do we have to play this game?? Enjoy Holman. No need to compare the two after every game.

Doesn’t matter because Joe Burrow would homer off either of them.

I like Holman, but are you just going to ignore that Skenes has 20% more strikeouts in the same number of innings?

No doubt, and I said the same thing in another thread. The biggest difference between him and Skenes is that Skenes was still pumping 99 in the 8th after 100 pitches. Holman won’t be able to go through a good SEC lineup for the 3rd time once his pitch count gets up and he’s sitting 90/91 instead of 93/94. But that’s ok. Our bullpen should be deeper and he shouldn’t have to. He’s still gonna shove against most lineups for 6+. (I do fear he’s gonna have some bad luck NDs going against other Friday night guys. Our offense is gonna get shut down occasionally.)

But I still think Holman could be SECPOTY. He’s fricking awesome. But he’s not Skenes, and threads like this are really unfair to him.
