The other side of this perspective is that we have too many people that are uneducated about our Republic voting simply because they are old enough. If it turns out that the vast majority of these window lickers vote Democrat, that's not our fault.
I agree, but just removing those voting privileges isn’t going to work. How do you justify that without making the age of majority 25?

In this thread, people turn the constitution into an al a carte menu and discard the parts they don't like....

No, the age of adulthood must be arbitrarily set somewhere. The age to vote, buy alcohol, enter into a contractual agreement, buy a weapon, go to war should be one age. 18.
The problem is universal suffrage and corruption. This may sound bigoted but on average/overall there is a net negative of women and low-IQ people voting. We should acknowledge the facts of nature, including biology and the difference between men and women in their ability to logically and reasonably make decisions rather than decisions based on emotions.
There is no constitutional right to vote. Congress should pass voting restrictions:
- must be legal US citizen
- must have IQ over 85 (this eliminates about 35% of the population)
- must have Y half of 23rd chromosome
- must pass citizenship test and IQ test and acquire license to vote (free of charge paid by the government)
Full auto machine guns, suppressors, and more should be legal for any 18 year old with no more than 1 hour waiting period. Sorry, the constitution says “shall not be infringed”.
Violent criminals should be swiftly given a speedy trial and then executed in public by hanging or crucifixion like the Romans did to Jesus (just kidding, Jesus wasn’t real, but serious about the crucifixion. Bodies of violent criminals should be left hanging on the pole as the carrion birds picked out their eyeballs. Executions should occur in the criminals’ home neighborhoods for all to see.
If we do that, and repeal the 14th, 17th, and 19th amendments, we won’t have a voting problem, a corrupt government problem, a “gun problem”, or jails filled with criminals sucking on the taxpayer teat. Women should have every right a man has, except voting, as they are already represented by the other 50% half of the population that is more capable on average of making rational decisions.
Wow frick I'm glad you don't call the shots holy shite.

You want to change the United States Constitution?
Good luck with that, it isn't an easy process.

lol. The older I get, the more I think that a lot of stuff that should have higher age limits. Driving, voting, alcohol, etc.
Now get off my lawn.

Young and uninformed voters are certainly a problem but millions of young uniformed voters who are being promised student loan forgiveness by Jotato is simply vote buying.
This^^^^ shite should be against the law.

I don't believe it's unreasonable to ask American citizens to be able to pass the same test that prospective immigrants do to become citizens.
Allowing people to participate in the democratic process of selecting those who run our Republic without understanding the principles that Republic was founded on, or how that Republic operates is ill advised at every level.

Like y'all do with the Second Amendment as well as the First when the words used hurt your tender sensibilities?

We have decided that they are not responsible for loans they took out, we have decided they are not responsible enough to carry insurance for themselves till 26.
Hell, I would let em vote if they showed that they were not on their parents cell phone plan, or hijacking anothers Netflix acct. That should weed out 90 percent.

I’ve never paid much attention to parties or party affiliations. I’ve always voted for the candidates that best reflect my values and ideas.
Those values & ideas should evolve as you grow older, mine certainly have. I don’t vote for the same things that I voted for when I was 18. I’m in my thirties now with a home, a child, a career, etc. and my choice of candidates that I support reflect that.
I don’t see anything wrong with 18 year old voting. Sure the candidates they support & the ideas they support aren’t the same as mine, but they shouldn’t be either.

If you own property,
Does it matter to you how that property is acquired? For example.. should an 18 year old from a wealthy family who inherits or is given money to purchase property be allowed to vote over an poor or middle class 18 year old whos family cannot afford to provide property to them?

It is important to have 18 year olds vote. That is when they become an adult. That is when they need to become involved in the process. Yes different generations will hold different values and that rustles feathers but that is how it has been. I thin the schools are in a tough spot about what they can do to educate the youth and yes academia is always going to be more filled with people from the left side of the political spectrum. This should be addressed but we don’t pay much for the teachers so you get what you get.

because I believe in individual rights, as opposed to your Marxist ideology of grouping people as a whole, I say let them vote at 18.
What about the individual rights of 17 year olds? You don’t have to think it’s a good idea but wanting an age requirement moved in one direction or the other has absolutely nothing to do with “Marxist ideology”. That’s a really dumb take.

The only reason much of this board wants to restrict voting (especially having men only vote) is because of this:

They're not of legal age.

No sarcasm at all, bring back literacy tests... throw in a U.S. Civics test too.

And now you see why Democrats are pushing to lower the voting age to 16. And to lower the age of consent.
It's almost as if they understand that young people are naive, malleable, ignorant and make bad decisions. And it's almost as if they want to take advantage of those bad decisions.
Personally, I feel that the right to vote should accompany home/property ownership. You know, actually own a stake in America before having the ability to vote on the direction of the country.
Of course, Dims would try to find a way around that, like gifting voters one square inch of "land" in some uninhabitable clime that no one will ever visit, but there could be ways to prevent that type of "ownership" from being recognized.
Also, if you receive SNAP and/or other low-income entitlements from the federal government, you should be disqualified as well. How we haven't already done this, is beyond me. A person who receives taxpayer funds from the federal government to sustain them, is going to vote in lockstep with the federal government. It's indentured voting servitude and should be illegal.

It probably wouldn’t be feasible but I’d be fine with a net positive federal tax balance. If you get something for nothing and it’s greater than your federal income tax burden, stay on the sidelines.
