I’m in agreement there (with some stipulations)

I can’t say I’m in agreement here. Curious though… why would you take this position?

I somewhat agree.

I'd take it a step further though. I believe every 18-25 year old should have to perform 2 years of public service. Whether that is in the military or some Civic Organization dedicated to the improvement of society. Whether that social program takes the form of cleaning highways, public areas, fighting fires, policing cities; is a matter to be worked out.

Part of the mandatory service requirement is education about the history of the country and how its systems function.

Too many people live in a bubble. Especially, in the first 18 years of life. Part of becoming an adult is learning that the world doesn't revolve around them and that we need each other to share the load.

Go back to older times when in order to be registered to vote, you had to verify a few things and own property in a an area or be leasing a place. Now some places you can register to vote online with little checks and balances. A nefarious individual could register a few names like Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck and request an absentee ballot by mail and vote without seeing an ID.

There’s a reason it’s 18. I down voted you. Just because you don’t like how that voting block votes, doesn’t mean you take away the vote. Should we take away anyone over 70? Or if you don’t own property? Or work?

You should have to pay a decent amount in taxes to vote or be retire military or over 60.

Your point is understood. We have already babied entire generations of 18-22 year olds. We made them think they are incapable of doing anything adult related. They are refusing to grow up and hit any adult milestones. The answer is putting more on their plate not less.

Voting should begin at conception.

It shouldn’t be bumped up. It should be restricted. If you own property, if you are a male US citizen born here or a military installation, to legal US citizens, and if you can pass a knowledge test on basic U.S. history and civics, then can you vote.

The rest of you….sorry.

I think you should have to pass a civics test prior to voting. As well as being able to show a history of employment. If you are on welfare or any other government assistance, you should not be able to vote.

While your candidate quality point has merit, the answer to what questions make it onthe test are simple:

American citizens should have to be able successfully to pass the same American History & Civics test that immigrants take prior to becoming citizens themselves.

This thread is great. Poll tests, tax payment requirements, age restrictions. How about poll tax? Or what about having to be a landowner?

Gen X and Millennials are shitty parents who are raising entitled and spoiled kids. No argument there. But people 35 and younger aren't having many kids so you don't need to worry about the youth having more numbers than you until you're 80.

Everytime I see threads like this, I think, there are tons of dumbasses at every age.

If you move it to 25, people will say, well, people 26-30 are dumb and stll living in mom's basement and should not vote, etc.

Further I am not at all a fan of tying "rights" to military service. You should serve in the military because you want to, not to get some other "right" early. As it is, military service you get paid (not enough) and access to college benefits like the GI Bill.

What's a "decent amount?" What kind of taxes?

Why do these groups get a pass?

Basically, they want to permanently wipe out Democratic voting bases.

The other side of this perspective is that we have too many people that are uneducated about our Republic voting simply because they are old enough. If it turns out that the vast majority of these window lickers vote Democrat, that's not our fault.
