Even with fast food restaurants..
Back when we had...
Now we have this bland shite.
Seems like shite all went down hill...

Capitalism always steers itself towards the blah.

Regarding that grand old architecture, my mother always says "God is in the details."
And modern architecture is a godless monstrosity.

You ever see a communist city?

Because it's about saving costs and making sure buildings are built to code based on massive government regulations.

Look at most of America beyond a downtown area and you'll have your answer. Suburban aesthetics gone awry.

Mike Brady is still pushing the envelope-

Because it has become far too expensive to build anything besides functional construction due to regulations.

Yep...
Look at the old Roy Roger's, they went as for as putting rain barrels for an old timey look that actually functioned..

Yer welcome to throw your designs out there and be the change you'd like to see. I agree with you about older architecture generally being more attractive, but I don't consider the examples you posted to be good examples for "bland" architecture. Bland is a steel building with a vinyl banner for a sign. Those are subdued, minimalist designs because that's what people like and it's probably quick, cheap and easy to build.

Because of cost. Materials are more expensive, there's more regulation than ever, labor is expensive and everything is about timelines.
If you can build it a little shittier but open 2 months earlier then business owners don't hesitate

Maybe just replace “human” with “American”

This is beautiful. We are lucky to have so many of them.

I'm not an architect so I have no knowledge on building standards and types, same as I'm not a dress designer, but I do know what looks good and what looks like pure shite.

Bc no cares to put time, money, energy in designing fast food restaurants. Focus on the stadiums being built around the country and you will have a different perspective

You're right about that... However, how often do you see NFL stadiums in a day?
Posted on 2/25/24 at 9:44 am to Hangover Haven
Quite often…at least stadiums in general. I live in Houston with several stadiums and I watch a lot of sports. So I see them on tv consistently.

There’s a lot of classic American excitement in your examples. You can see our optimism in those restaurants.
After WW2 we stopped using beauty as a principle in design, and embraced ugliness. I’m guessing this is connected. Most modern designs are visibly oppressive and appear designed to depress everyone who has the misfortune of being in and around them. These buildings don’t inspire any positive emotions. They put you on edge instead.

Brutalist architecture is meant to make you feel small and inadequate to the state.
It’s why a lot of govt buildings from the 50-80s have that shite sore style.
Brutalist. Not even once.

McDonald's built a new restaurant in Flowood in early 2000's. Has the real arches in the old style.
and Mayor Mary made Sam's alter its design before she approved the permit.
