He's been part timing it due to his health for years. Stewart waited his turn patiently, filled in admirably and now it's his job.

Sorry Eli. Them's the breaks.

Eli has made millions by being in the right place at the right time and doing just good enough to keep a job.

I bear him no ill will, but it's time for the university and him to move on.

A lot of legends in T-Town.

We are putting Eli in the Paul Bryant Museum and having him stuffed. You know, kinda like what Roy Rogers did with Trigger.

There isn’t a good way to handle it. Some of these broadcasters are willing to hang on well past their prime. Louisiana Tech is dealing with it right now.

Our guy is in his 50th season which is amazing, but he’s just not up for it. Km glad they are giving him his ride off into the sunset but if you watch a game and listen to the broadcast, you’ll be wondering if you are actually watching the same game as him.

Problem is that he wasn't fired. He contract was completed and the decision was made to not to extend him a new one.

He was good years ago, but he made some seriously off-beat and bad calls during some of the biggest plays in school history the last several years.

The University stuck by him and kept paying him his full salary while he was sick and through the past season when he was only doing home games. Honestly, this past year should have been his victory lap and really he should have called it a day several years ago. He's 70 and not in great shape and is not on his game anymore. He wants to keep hanging on and only do home games. Sorry, that's not going to work.

Semantics

Saban too. He left on his terms

I don't disagree with the facts. He's not what he used to be. This past season should have been his last and given him his proper farewell, but that didn't happen. There had to be better handling of this, terms that both sides could agree on that didn't result in a life long Bama icon being so disgruntled that he holds animosity.

Jerry Jones is living Tom Landry's karma as we speak. Good luck.

And I would also like to apologize for the tornado reference earlier in this thread as it would relate to loss of life. It was an exaggeration without thought of those unintended consequences.

I've been to 4 games in Tuscaloosa and the atmosphere and the people have been great. For all the shite we give and get, there is much respect

Fox or NBC should add him to their nascar coverage when they have road courses and need multiple PbP guys.

He was great calling nascar races for MRN for a long time.

Don't know if Eli is still doing MRN or not. If he is, he can give Bama a heartfelt frick you as he's leaving the building.

He told Rivals he wanted to stay at Alabama another 10 years.

Look I am a Bama fan and I respect Eli and I understand his iconic status because he’s been the voice of the Saban glory years. But he’s slipped badly and the idea of him being there another decade is just ludicrous. Do we really need an 80-year-old announcer?

It’s obvious he has no intention of going to the house, ever, he’s going to keep doing this for anyone who will give him a microphone until he keels over dead in the middle of calling a play, and I don’t think “tradition” and an “iconic status” is a reason for Alabama to facilitate that.

I’ve been on this train for years. Dude called the Tua walkoff against Georgia like it was a routine TD in September

We have absolutely no idea what was offered to Eli if anything. We have no idea what Eli was willing to accept. All we know for a fact is that he’s missed 20 games over the last 2 years and that his contract was up
