Yes it is. You’re fasting from meat consumption.

Or we could just accept that Christ paid the price for all of our sins if we put our trust in Him and do away with the mortal/venial sins discussion altogether.

No.
Mortal is seriously bad.
Venial is minor.

Father Guido Sarducci explained that when you die you must pay for your sins.
Murder is very serious...it might cost you $200,000.
Masturbation is a cheap sin...about 25 cents.

Tell me you’re poorly catechized without telling me you’re poorly catechized.

Go talk to Saint James. Ask him his opinion and then come back and tell us what he said.

Mortal = knowingly eating meat on Friday
Venial = forgetting it was Friday when you wolfed down McD's 1/4 Pounder

Holy crap! Yeah, my knowledge of Catholicism and it's many tenets is admittedly rudimentary at best.

This is why need to bring back nuns and corporal punishment!

Aww yeah... Now THIS is something I'll agree with anyway. Whether it's nuns or school teachers, bring that ruler back!

Mrs. Walker was our HS English/Debate teacher. Woman is country AF and good as gold, but tolerated ZERO shite from anyone and had this funky square-end-shaped paddle with "board of education" elegently painted on it in beautiful cursive, and an abnormally long handle when compared to the boards of the other teachers. Looked kinda like an old square oak cutting board with an 18" handle.

Nobody got swats from her more than once. I mean, nobody. Linemen on our football team would be unable to sit after she took them down to the principal's office to administer her "hide tanning". She's retired now but I still talk to her as often as I can and she's still tough as nails.

Sorry for the digress.... Carry on

I think the old school nuns were actually escaped Nazi's hiding out in the cloister, or sadists, or both.

They were frustrated bull dykes when I did time.

Yeah...nothing like having to eat seafood to prove how good of a Catholic you are.
Capybara and beaver are okay, btw. The church considers them seafood.

My favorite part of Catholicism.

Get plastered and sleep with anything on Saturday, hit the confessional on Sunday before mass. Emerge clean a whistle. That is what makes the faith #1 to me (perfect for the Scots - Irish personality).

Sure beats not drinking, no fornicating, and no dancing Protestants.

In fairness, Cheese Grits is so old that Biden talks about how out of touch he is. Cheese Grits probably doesn’t remember much if anything about catechism.

I am pre Vatican II

Guilt was a really big part of the faith in my youth, that and beatings.

Latin
Beatings
Guilt
More beatings
Spit & Polish dress and appearance
More beatings

Vatican II Catholics have it so easy, it almost liked the Catholic Lites (Epicopalians)

I’m sure a lot of what you do isn’t in the Bible either. Sola scriptura is silly.

Protestants put their faith in a Bible codified by the Catholic Church more than a 1600 yrs ago. 1200 yrs before the Protestant Churches.

It's the sacrifice of having to eat something that you don't normally eat i.e. go out of your way to not eat meat jackhole

Like I said, Vatican II made it all too easy, sadly this happened after my childhood so not in my wheelhouse.

Quite seductive but growing up in a neighborhood of Catholics and Jews, no way those nuns and matriarchs would ever give up the power of guilt.
