One of the dozens of items on agenda for next weeks special session is Constitutional carry.
In years past it’s been killed by the lobbying of law enforcement and others. Landry, a sherrif, supports constitutional carry. It’s reportedly going to pass without a hitch.

It was opposed in AL by the Sherriff's Association... mostly because it was taking money out of their pockets...
Thankfully it passed...

That would be absolutely excellent.

Need Ted Nugent down in Louisiana to push and celebrate with him.
He is a radical nut job but he's like a patriot pushing God , country and the constitution.
I love the this guy !

Weird. In Oklahoma, law enforcement agencies lobbied for constitutional carry. Our County Sheriff was one of the State's biggest proponents of permitless carry.

Morgan County sheriff's spokesman Mike Swafford said the $255,751 in lost permit revenue over the last two years — a loss that began when passage of the law was widely expected — funded training, equipment and school resource programs.

They charge fees for the permits.
Also, there are officers that do side gigs to provide the required training for the permit

EBR sheriff opposed it under a foolish notion that some how it puts officers in more danger? Because criminals tell you they are carrying a weapon before they shoot you.

It’s really like statutory carry being that it’s being encoded in state statutes

It was passed last time with a veto proof majority. But JBE called their bluff and vetoed it and they didn’t override.

If I’m not mistaken the DA’s association & Sheriff’s association are both opposed to this. And they pretty much run this state so it’ll be interesting to see if it passes.

That’s correct and historically been the hurdle politically but with a supportive governor, their lobbying against might be worthless

I went to a personal meet & greet with him a few years back upstairs in the Cajun Dome and he said he laughs at the "gun free zone" signs. He said when he walks in a place it's no longer gun free.
It was kind of a weird deal, they made all of turn in our phones before we could go in the room and retrieve them when we left.

Oklahoma doesn't have the demographics that Louisiana law enforcement has to deal with.

If it doesn't pass this year it probably never will anytime soon.

That revenue went directly into the Sherriff's pockets in Alabama... It was one of the few revenue sources the Sherriff had sole discretion over AND it was, wait for it, a personal slush fund for most...

I'm all for Constitutional carry but will still keep my license. If you travel out of state it's good to have for reciprocity. Also if you have a CCW license most FFL's don't call in the brady check.

Yes, will still maintain a CCW license just because I frequently travel between Louisiana, Arkansas, Tennessee, and Mississippi. Arkansas is a Constitutional Carry state as are the neighboring states. Louisiana is an island of idiocy for not already having it.
