Not reading everyone’s response, but you seem real insecure deep down. Your posts tend to bash people that make poor financial decision Time and time again.

Deep down maybe you know your trash and deep down you’ve been angry all your life, knowing you came up in a not so ideal similar scenario.

I don’t shame you for working hard to thrive in life and overcome, but people tend to lash out or mock things that hit too close to home.

No hate, just a hug my friend

Why is the middle to low class always dumping large sums of money into low class things? Why is there such an interest difference when crossing the tracks.

because one side has figured out how to make money and the other side has figured out how to spend money. As long as there are people that will spend every dime they earn on material things, there will always be people positioning themselves to help take their money off of their hands

I’m amazed every time I read one of those OT watch threads. Nothing screams “flashy” like the need to own a $10k+ watch.

The funny thing is I can put any of my high-end watches on and 99.9% of the population couldn't tell you if it was a $200 watch or a $100,000 watch without a Google machine.

You don't see cars parked in high end neighborhoods unless it is visitors/help. It isn't allowed.

Exactly. They don’t have to be gold and covered in diamonds to be valuable.

I just don’t get it — us handful of watch nerds live rent free in a lot of posters heads.

Just looked outside. All I see is late model Lexus, Mercedes and Toyotas

It’s funny to me when I see Cadillac Escalades, Lexus, Mercedes, etc. lined up in driveways outside of trailers. I don’t care, I just find it amusing.

I haven't seen the numbers lately, but Yukon Denali buyers had higher average income than Escalade buyers ten or so years ago.

I'd be surprised if that has changed.

They can’t understand why you’d spend money on it instead of what they like.

That wasn’t directed at you, personally. DC’s description of them as a possible investment makes sense, and I wasn’t aware of that aspect. I’m not that guy who has an opinion that he will not see changed.

stealth wealth.

Another similar concept is a luxury belief.

quote:

Doug Lemov and co-authors in 2023 described Henderson's concept of the luxury belief as "an idea that confers social status on people who hold it but injures others in its practical consequences."[2] Matthew Goodwin, professor of political science at the University of Kent, explained further in 2023 that such beliefs are held by people "who no longer measure somebody's status or moral worth through money, estates, titles or education but through the new lens of ideas and beliefs."[3]

For example, the belief that marriage and the nuclear family are no better than alternative family arrangements is often cited as a luxury belief.[7][1] In fact, intact families are predictive of positive childhood outcomes, and wealthy families are more likely to stay together[citation needed], despite potentially espousing the contrary belief.

The term is usually used pejoratively, and critics of luxury beliefs argue that they are often hypocritical and insincere.

In October 2023, former British Home Secretary Suella Braverman claimed in a speech that support for the admission of irregular migrants to the United Kingdom is a luxury belief.[8]

I earn more than 97% of this country and the most expensive watch I own is my Apple Watch. And I don’t even wear it most of the time.

That said some watches hold their value very well and in some cases appreciate. I don’t follow them and wouldn’t know which are like that and which aren’t. There are a few that I really like but I would never wear them.

Luxury belief

Holding onto a belief you yourself would never be exposed to or would never have put in practice.

For the elite wealthy for instance a luxury belief would be open borders because they believe their wealth would shield them from the consequences.

And they would be right.

Most common example I have seen is as follows:

Marriage and the nuclear family are antiquated and outdated ideas. The same people espousing this idea are themselves married and have a nuclear family.
