mid-60’s to the mid 70’s.
This is the correct answer.

You have to give it to the 60’s just based on the bands and artists that came from that era. I’m partial to the 90’s.

This is pretty much how most will vote it’s all subjective anyway

The 50's through the 80's was the best time for music. All genres.
There was no auto-tune or computers to enhance the musicians abilities. You really had to know how to play an instrument and sing unlike today.

The 60s is ten years. '60-'65 gets its arse kicked by '70-'75.

I think you can make an argument that the 2000s was the most diverse in genre.
Eminem, Jay-Z, Kanye West, among other for rap
The boy bands, Beyoncé, Britney Spears Lady Gaga, a ton of other for pop
Linkin Park, Green Day, MCR, Arctic Monkeys, and more for rock
Even EDM was blowing up with Daft Punk, M83, and MGMT

'65 - '80 because '78 was such a breakthrough year.
In '78, Grease was the word, The Village Voice named This Year's Model by Elvis Costello as the album of the year, Kate Bush, The Cars, Devo, Dire Straits, The Police, Buzzcocks and Van Halen released their debut albums.

It’s between 70s and 90s but I’ll give the 70s the edge

70s had so much variety and experimentation. Plus, concerts were dirt cheap and everyone toured.

1. 1970s
2. 1980s
3. 1960s
Two and three are very close but the blah of 1960 through 1965 drags the 60s down further than the blah of 1988 and 1989 drags down the 80s. If you think anything other than the 1970s though you have bad taste. The only decade in music with no weak years in it.

No, you can't. Anyone that thinks they can was not alive in the 1970s.
In the 1970s you could turn on a pop station and hear Blondie, Queen, Olivia Newton-John, Bee Gees, Glen Campbell, Earth, Wind, and Fire, Kiss, Bob Seger, Bellamy Brothers, Tony Orlando and Dawn, Three Dog Night, John Lennon, Stevie Wonder, and Charlie Rich. Mind you this was AM radio. I haven't even opened the can of madness that was FM radio in the 1970s.
In the 2000s you could turn on a pop station and hear Brittany Spears, Backstreet Boys, OutKast, and the Black Eyed Peas.
Comparing the music of the 1970s with the music of the 2000s is like comparing a Ferrari to a Prius.

The 2000s was the beginning of the decline of mainstream rock music.
As the years went by, you heard them less and less on the radio.
You heard more and more pop, hip hop and rap music.
Even country music was able to outlast them albeit to the point of throwing away tradition for broader audiences.

Hard to say…
The 70’s had great rock.
The 80’s was more diverse…
