I saw Fight Club the other day and it showed a lot of brutal truths about society and the political climate of today’s world.

Men who are disregarded from society and have nothing to lose will eventually stop giving a frick about being “nice” to people. Why should I have to “fit in” when my generation is nothing but a bunch of materialistic, narcissistic, self-absorbed assholes who care about nothing but getting likes on an Instagram post?

Social media has turned Generation Z into one of the most superficial and self-absorbed generations I’ve ever seen. They don’t want to have long-lasting relationships. They want to stick to their social cliques and post Instagram pictures of themselves getting wasted at college bars at 2 AM so they can “fit in” with other social cliques on Instagram. And if you reject ANY form of social media, Gen Z views you as an outcast and ostracizes you. It’s a generation that prioritizes looks and popularity over character.

What do you think happens when Generation Z keeps furthering into looney land with woke politics and narcissism on social media? Guys go to the extreme opposite and become alt-right Neo-Nazi incels. They frequent sites like Incel.is and 4chan to interact with other guys who have been disregarded by society so they can relate with them. Now you have sites full of pissed off young men who congregate with each other.

You see the problem? If social media never existed we wouldn’t be having this problem with people becoming super isolated and turning to the extreme opposite sides of the political spectrum.

You’re mostly right. We’re also well aware of it.

Man, I see in fight club the strongest and smartest men who've ever lived. I see all this potential, and I see squandering. God damn it, an entire generation pumping gas, waiting tables; slaves with white collars. Advertising has us chasing cars and clothes, working jobs we hate so we can buy shite we don't need. We're the middle children of history, man. No purpose or place. We have no Great War. No Great Depression. Our Great War's a spiritual war... our Great Depression is our lives. We've all been raised on television to believe that one day we'd all be millionaires, and movie gods, and rock stars. But we won't. And we're slowly learning that fact. And we're very, very pissed off.

Lots of truth in here.

Firstly, you sound like a very young person, which is great in this context given you appreciate the referenced film.

***

One line that always stuck with me was, "the things you own, end up owning you" by Pitt's character at some point in the film.

I can't believe you watched this movie and the message you took out of it was social media, even more so than consumerism?

Fight Club is the young adult philosophers stone like Catcher in the Rye is for teenagers.

Btw, his name is Robert Paulson.

I think it's great you are realizing you have these problems. They say once you reach acceptance, life can only get better.

Pretty sure college is when you realize that your high school era understanding of Fight Club (i.e. the OP's) totally missed the point of Fight Club.

Andrew Tate has done positive things for young men, preaching them to work hard and be stoic. However, that is not the current topic of discussion.
