Situationally, sure. But not as a base.

First, I don't think DT is going to be the huge weakness some think when the roster is filled out and some players moved.

I don't understand how you keep saying this.

2-4-5 Pass Crunch is something I invented in 7th grade Pioneer. That’s the mood. The one.

We will get mauled by teams rushing the ball down our throats!

We have the DL coaches to fix the line and we have BK and all his awesome staff to recruit and bring in 2-3 more DT in the spring portal, then coach them up. We will be fine! I say we get Muhammed and 1-2 others.

People overrate base defenses, and also overate style at the college level.

A good DT at the college level could probably line up in any position and have success.

I think this upcoming season will be the last season we have to worry about DLine at LSU . With the excellent coaches/recruiters we have in place i'm hoping to see DLines at LSU similar to the ones we had around 2011 in the near future.

3-3-5 which is really a 4-3 with a stand-up END who can drop into coverage

3-3-5 is really a 4-2-5 with a stand up end.

I will say they treated Perkins more like a DB than LB last year

They need to make him a Safety. Harry Coleman was a safety and he and Perkins are similar size. Coleman 6'2' 206 vs Perkins 6'1" 220. I would bet Perkins is faster than Coleman was.

Base might be 3-4. But most of the time it was 3-3-5 anyway. Or 4-2-5.

Against the good teams we lost most one on ones on the line of scrimmage and at least the LB level. Really tackled badly in space as well. Nothing new here.

We have plenty of bodies. Probably second tier in sec for talent on the D line. Makes no sense

Someone beat me to part of my answer. First, as the replier said in a later post, the spring transfer portal is coming. Second, there will be movement of Paris Shand for sure and possibly S Jones to the interior.

There is no defense that can survive without two run stoppers on most downs. It doesn’t matter how you number them. We are short on run stoppers. We need more.

Don't think we hired 2 DL coaches to run a 3 man line

4-5-4 is the only alignment with the current talent on the roster.

3-4 seems to be the obvious answer to me

I think having two DL coaches kind of signals that this is the direction for foreseeable future. DC is a LB guy and can make the 4th LB offset lack of additional DLman.

Either way, scheme should change significantly from 4quarters of HousePrevent.

IT's really a question of is your base defense a 4-2-5 or 3-3-5 these days.

this....

youre going to have 5 DBS on the field 70% of the time.. whether you have 4 DL or 3 depends on how well theyre running it on us...

They’ll sign a minimum of 2 DT’s in the spring portal window

Just like last year when they signed 2-3 and only one had modest contribution? They dont grow on trees, and the ones leaving teams in spring are the ones who wont play anyway because they didnt get into the starting lineup on their previous teams.

This DT absence was predictable and represents gross roster mismanagement, especially in these days of transfer portal- unless they can pull two (2) out of their arse. And dont say BK is avoiding transfers in preference of inexperienced first year players; if LSU gets their asses kicked next year because of a deficient D line, future recruits will bail.
