re: More Americans are getting divorced later in life (RIP Boomer retirements)

This is true.
Also, some people become a totally different person in that time from who they were when they got married. They feel "secure" in their relationship so as to not take pride in their physical looks, health, monetary habits, etc. Eventually one day once the kids are gone, that spouse will have to face the music of who they've become.

Not surprised, the rapid increase in female entitlement outside of social media in my opinion is caused by boomer mothers influencing their daughters. I know plenty of them who encouraged their daughters to file for divorce if their husband's were down on their luck with a job loss or something.

I'd be curious to see the numbers of whether or not those couples had been divorced from a previous spouse, i.e. is this their first marriage?
That's a yuuuge risk factor.
The percentage of marriages ending in divorce is inflated by people with multiple divorces.

The percentage of people getting married is also significantly decreased from what it was decades ago.

The irony runs deep here.
Imagine telling your millenial kids that they are lazy and have it easy then relying on them to make it through retirement after mom takes all of your retirement money.

At the same time, divorce rates among young adults have dropped.

This is an irrelevant stat when less people are getting married.

Its a very sad phenomenon. Some of these people have multiple kids and a whole mess of grandkids.

It’s also expensive to maintain a household on one income in this economy

The ones who are getting married are divorcing less, but the rate at which the younger generations are marrying is significantly lower.

Is there anything boomers are good at?

Yep, they cant even find someone that wants them

For instance, the groups with the most prolific experience of marriages ending in divorce are downscale adults (adults making less than $20,000 annually) (39 percent), Baby Boomers (38 percent), those aligned with a non-Christian faith (38 percent), African-Americans (36 percent), and people who consider themselves to be liberal on social and political matters (37 percent).
Take the inverse: conservative, Christian, educated couples are far less likely to be divorced.
This is not surprising news.

So dumb.. maybe talk to those “young adults” in 30 or 40 years and THEN report their divorce rate ?
You missed the point, which was that the rate of divorce for young people has dropped. It is just a datum. Perhaps they will divorce down the line; that doesn’t change the fact that they divorced young at a rate lower than the previous generation.

Eh. Unless you are stupid about it, not as bad as you think. Folks are getting married later in life as well.
Which means as long as you kept earlier accounts separate as opposed to just rolling it all to the new job, it means the part of the next egg with the longest compound interest is 100% untouchable.

This is why it irks me when people discussing marriage trot out the old “you have a 50% chance of divorce” nonsense.
It’s like telling a 30 year old that he has a 50% chance of becoming obese without accounting for what he eats and his activity level/intensity. It’s equally nonsensical.
There’s a lot that is within your control. Are you willing and able to learn, work hard, and adhere to a covenant….that’s basically what it comes down to, regardless of age, race or origin. Those who do these things have an extremely high success rate in marriage.
