What a stupid purchase by UPS.

Wait, you mean to tell me paying drivers 170k isn’t sustainable when Amazon just contracts out to the lowest bidder for their delivery drivers?

Years ago, I worked at company that was NE based, therefore we all had to join a union. The industry I was in, had historically been very non union especially in the South so it was strange to be in a union. We had contract negotiations come up one year. Being the union rep of my group of workers, I discussed what everyone was seeking in the new contract and sent that to the union. Back and forth the union and our company went, finally reaching a settlement.
We got a call from the union telling us congratulations we still have a job, but that everything we had wanted or hoped for had been denied and the company actually ended up much better off, but hey we still had a job! Unions are pretty much useless other than it takes an act of God and Congress to fire you.

You fricked up by not putting something in there for yourself as the rep. If you'd have shown some initiative, you'd be getting your kickbacks by now and probably moved up. It's all about taking care of yourself when it comes to the union. frick everyone else under you.
Union Rule #1: There's an "M" and an "E" in 'TEAM'. So where's mine?

Funny how Unions were designed to save the livelihoods, and often lives, of working families. But they've (d)evolved into gluttonous predatory self-serving entities that continuously fight for more money and less work for its members and give the middle finger to everyone else.

UPS will cut 12,000 jobs and released a revenue outlook for this year that sent its shares down sharply.
The company also hinted that its Coyote truck load brokerage business may be put up for sale. UPS acquired the Chicago-based company for $1.8 billion in 2015.
The Teamsters in September voted to approve a tentative contract agreement with UPS, putting a final seal on contentious labor negotiations that threatened to disrupt package deliveries for millions of businesses and households nationwide. The contract includes pay raises for full- and part-time union workers, the creation of 7,500 full-time jobs and the filling of 22,500 open positions, allowing more part-timers to transition to full-time.
On a conference call Tuesday morning, CEO Carol Tome said that by reducing the company’s headcount UPS will realize $1 billion in cost savings. The job eliminations are anticipated to be among management roles and contractors, the company said.
Sounds to like 2 things are happening:
1. Too many repetitive management roles.
2. The contractors they like will be hired on as UPS employees and new teamsters.

You think this bunch of physically fit, super model banging millionaires care about the working man?

Companies EXIST to make money for the shareholders (owners). Nobody starts a business because they want to employ people for the betterment of society. That’s not how this works.
When did they stop teaching free enterprise and basic economics? The profit motive and free market capitalism is the best way to help the most people. It’s not debatable.

Ups about to go the way of usps with all the management and support staff about to get shite canned.

When you're paying the drivers $170K, they really shouldn't need a manager.

"When you look at total compensation, by the end of the new contract, the average UPS full-time driver will make about $170,000 annually in pay and benefits," Tome told investors Tuesday. "And for all part-time union employees that are already working at UPS, by the end of this contract, they will be making at least $25.75 per hour while receiving full health care and pension benefits."

shite going by this these layoffs seem like something tOT would normally celebrate.
People actually doing the shite and producing the product are getting paid more and a bunch of middle management paper pushers (prob filled to the fricking brim with DEI hires) is getting gutted.

OT is too busy raging about unions to realize that UPS is an excellent organization that's discovered how to use the Teamsters to their advantage.
This ain't the UAW.

I retired from there in 2000 and AFAIK they always brought hourly up through the ranks to be CEO. I think Carol she may be an outside brought in for CEO. What a massive failure she is. I think she is going run the company into the ditch.
I just hope employees didn't upgrade houses and other things based on their raise.

The problem is they aren’t getting that Amazon volume anymore. That hurts. If amazon starts delivering 3p parcels, UPS in big heap trouble.
