For years I have heard how amazing this show was from everybody

I have tried to watch it from the start at least 10 times now and I can’t get through the first season

Does it get better after the 1st season?

Yes and each season is slightly different than the last.

I mean if you said you tried once or twice, I'd try and talk you into keep going, but at least 10 times? Yea, the show just isn't for you.

Sounds like this kind of thing just isn’t your bag.

I have always taken the recommendations here petty serious. I have watched some great shows and movies from what I have learned here that I may have just passed over. I do agree with a lot of the popular thoughts too.

But I do agree with you on The Wire. I liked the show. I did.. But in all, it was just a good Cop/Druggy show. Some good characters. But to me, it was no where near a top 5 show or probably even a top 10 for me.

I just think I didnt get it like most did here. I have tried to go back and do a rewatch but I always stop after a few episodes

How far did you get? If you don't start enjoying it by at least the 7th or 8th episode of Season 1, it just may not be for you.

You're not alone. I've watched the first two seasons quite a few times. I always stop cause it's lame.

Most overrated series on this forum by a mile.

Same. The most recent time, I made it about halfway through season two. I stopped again.

No. It's more of the same. If season 1 didn't do it for you, skip the rest. It took me 3 tries to get through it. It's not as good as these clowns are making it out to be.

Not everybody likes everything. You don't like it, it's OK.

It’s past its prime.

When the Godfather first came out, it was great.

However, after all the hundreds of other mafia movies came out duplicating the same themes, it doesn’t really provide any impact to a new viewer.

It’s like sizzler was the bomb in the 70s and outback crushed it in the 80s and 90s.

But now, both those spots are seen as subpar to terrible places to eat.

They are really the same, and people used to love the Texas toast & Bloomin Onion…but now “omg it’s soo greasy”

The Wire has been coming up recently and The Sopranos seems to always come up with it and I was curious how they were seen by a wider group. This is the RT, JustWatch, and IMDB ratings for both. They are nearly identical.

It’s decent, but the best show ever seems like it’s a hive mind of this board. Perhaps people should lay off the best show ever crap so people don’t go in with extremely high expectations

Not me. Having seen countless dozens of threads you start all over the various boards, you won't understand the show's greatness no matter what we say.

I did a re-watch & started with S3 after watching a long S1 & S2 recap. You might try that.

Good luck. I've finally given up. I'm tired of forcing myself to watch this thing. I watched two seasons, and I've had all I can take. There's too many shows and movies out there that I actually enjoy watching. The Wire isn't enjoyable. It's slow and is a pain in the arse to watch.

I can not see why people love this show. I tried.

I’m of the firm belief that if you reach the scene in the first season where Dee is explaining how to play chess to Bodie and Wallace (S1, E3) and you don’t enjoy the show it’s not for you. That was the hook for me.

For me it's mostly about the genre.
I'm not interested in thug life type shows/movies.
While I appreciate the authenticity of shows/movies like The Godfather, The Sopranos, The Wire, etc., I'm simply not interested in portrayals of that aspect of life.
And yes, I'm a milk drinker who prefers more wholesome content like Hallmark shows and movies.
