Those rich white people and their ... checks notes ... lack of curtains on their windows

The Atlantic. (Behind a paywall, but you can read enough to get the idea)
Of course, the Atlantic is owned by Steve Jobs' widow, Lauren Powell Jobs, one of the richest women in the world. But by all means, let's focus on some investment banker's Brooklyn brownstone and whether he has curtains or not.
These people usually have foil on their windows, in my experience.
Of course, the Atlantic is owned by Steve Jobs' widow, Lauren Powell Jobs, one of the richest women in the world. But by all means, let's focus on some investment banker's Brooklyn brownstone and whether he has curtains or not.

Walk down the block of a wealthy neighborhood at night, and you might be surprised by how much you can see. One uncovered window might reveal the glow of a flatscreen TV across from a curved couch; through another, you might glimpse a marble kitchen island and a chandelier. Of course, some of the curtains are closed—but many are flung open, the home’s interiors exposed, like you’re peering into a showroom.

Uncovered windows have quietly become a fixture of high-end homes across America. The New York Times recently referred to the “obligatory uncurtained windows” of Brooklyn Heights, a rich enclave in New York City, and The Root pointed out that this seemed common among wealthy young white people living in gentrified urban areas. On TikTok, onlookers have been baffled by the trend—and, sometimes, tempted to pry. Although this phenomenon is most visible in cities, the link between wealth and exposed windows extends across the United States. Most people do still close their shades, but Americans who earn more than $150,000 are almost twice as likely to leave windows uncovered as those making $20,000 to $29,000, according to a large 2013 study for the U.S. Department of Energy—nearly 20 percent of the first group compared with just over 10 percent of the second. The line isn't smooth as you slide up and down the income scale, but the overall trend is clear: The choice to draw or not draw the curtains is in part driven by class.

If I move away from minorities, it's white flight and i'm oppressing people of color. If I move into the neighborhood, i've gentrified and i'm oppressing people of color. I just love the left

Privilege is when you have so few problems, that you are looking at who is leaving their curtains open.
150,000 isn't even a whole lot of money.

Maybe they got rich by not wasting money on curtains.

This is a crazy take, so bear with me. Maybe the whole drawing curtains thing is greatly related to the type of people that might look into your windows. Maybe, just maybe, the people in the upper income brackets don't have crackheads & homeless walking in front of their house on a daily basis.

The Atlantic is noticing that some people like natural light in their houses.
Must have been a slow news day.

This one is even better...
The Atlantic
I bet they criticize white people for gentrifying certain areas as well.

THE SUBURBS HAVE BECOME A PONZI SCHEME
A new book looks at how white families depleted the resources of the suburbs and left more recent Black and Latino residents “holding the bag.”
By Alex Kotlowitz
quote:
Nearly 25 years ago, I reported on the changing demographics of Cicero, a working-class suburb just west of Chicago. For years, the town, which was made up mostly of Italian and Eastern European American families, worked hard at keeping Black people from settling there. In 1951, when a Black family moved in, a mob entered their apartment, tore it up, and pushed a piano out a window. Police watched and did nothing. The governor had to call out the National Guard. By 2000, the nearby factories, which were the economic foundation of the community, had begun to close. White families moved out and left behind a distressed, struggling town to its new residents—Latinos, who now made up three-quarters of the population. It felt wrong. It felt like the white families got to enjoy the prosperity of the place, and then left it to these newcomers to figure out how to repair aging infrastructure and make up for the lost tax revenues.
I bet they criticize white people for gentrifying certain areas as well.

I almost always have my curtains open because I like natural light. Good to know that makes me a white supremacist or something.

This is a very important issue that every liberal arts college should spend all their money on.

Well cheap apartments normally have blinds.

Remember when we opened our windows to put the baby out for fresh air?

They are just making sure the drapes match the carpet.
Most of them traded in shag carpets for hardwood floors.

Not a single blind or curtain in our main living areas. Sorry that rustles Michael Waters's jimmies.

Have y’all ever noticed the folks who put aluminum foil in their windows? I don’t have curtains and walk around nekkid.

Does the lack of curtains apply to the bathroom and bedroom too? Asking for a friend.

Gre up poor, curtains opened during the day and closed at night. I still do that and I am in the rich white category.
If I lived in a shite house in shite neighborhood, I might keep my curtains closed all day. Don't want those thieves stealing my 85" flat screen.
