And im not sure if you live anywhere in the parish do you get what you pay for
Right now, St George is putting about $50m a year into the general fund and not seeing anything close to that in services because they aren’t a city.
They could get $20m in services for $50m in tax revenue and it would be a step up from what the parish allocates now.

So why are you against a legal vote for people to incorporate?

Not against that the ppl voted
My point is that a lot of the whining is not necessary, we all pay for stuff we don’t use

Correct.
Sewerage and Water - parish service, already provided and paid for by taxpayers
Garbage and recycling - same
Sheriff - same
EMS - same
Fire (St. George) - exclusively paid for by St.G. residents.
They beat their chest about having a police department and the costs for that, but that's not required - they can stand pat with EBRSO (at least, for a while).
Schools?
They don't even have a district yet - so it's a parish-wide expense and is already paid for.

I wonder if LSURussian was in court. He has a BR estate to protect, after all.

The issue is that you have the possibility of using it (like the bus system or COA). The St. George area is paying for something that they are not allowed to use.

That’s not a valid point. You CHOOSE to not use the services like the bus you described later. StG doesn’t even have the option to choose to not use it. They are forced to pay with no choice in the matter

Because she wont be in St George after the split.
Fwiw neither will I, but I plan on leaving the area anyways

It’s hilarious that politicians tote around “save our democracy”…
Then we have a democratic vote, and a subset of the population then screams “no not that kind of democracy!”
Politics on a national stage is sickening, but it feels often futile and unchangeable.
But this was here at home and a whole region of the parish voiced their will, and the local ruling class simply is trying to not allow it because they don’t like the outcome.
Explain to me how that’s not a dictatorship.

The bus issue gets very murky because of how they passed it.
It is directly taxed for BR and Baker when they pushed for the increased funding some years back because it never would have worked at the parish level. In fact, it got voted down in Zachary.
How money from the general fund gets spent could mean St George paying for it since money is fungible and their money is commingled with the rest of the general fund.

Weimer isn't for this at all.
In his over 20 years in the court, he seemed to be more and more like a disappointment now that he is the chief Justice. No wonder why Landry and him don’t seem to get along.
He seems like a Trump appointed turn coat Justice like ACB.

Because a vote only counts when it works out in their favor. Otherwise, they keep trying to find ways to re-dress the pig until it gets approved.
The EU had a lot of this some years back when they forced a new constitution to be voted on by each country without their input and got pissy when countries told them to frick off.

I grew up taking the bus in NOLA, I’m not against public transportation - the bus in BR is useless
Fwiw I do choose not to use the school system

They pay taxes. Unfortunately, the way the budget is done their taxes only cover a percentage of what is spent on the area instead of all of what is spent.
Hence the people getting catty.
If you are paying $20 and I am paying $30 into a pot and $45 of it gets spent on you, I’m not going to be too interested in pointing out that you paid some of that money. I’m going to be more interested in pointing out I paid $30 for $5 in spending.

No one forgets that. But this whole thing has laid bare how much the unincorporated parts of the parish are getting fricked.

There is also a detriment to living on the city with that municipal charge on the entergy bill as well

That is a theoretical just using random amounts.
But the big thing here is that sales taxes spent in St George aren’t being used on St George.
The argument is that “it is the whole parish shopping there, so the whole parish should benefit.” Except people from other parishes shop there too and people from St George shopping at Whole Foods or elsewhere doesn’t result in BR having to allocate their taxes to pay for St George.

As someone else mentioned earlier, they should have given St. George the school they wanted. Instead they stuck to their guns and made that entire area (which is pretty large) settle for Woodlawn.
