I had a similar issue with TSA in the same airport a few years ago.
I went through the scanner but there was a tiny piece of foil-lined gum wrapper, empty wrapper, in my pocket that I didn't catch. After they pulled me aside, I turned out my pockets and viola! here's the gum wrapper, that's all it is. Can I walk back through?
NO! You get the pat down and hand held bullshite scanner thing, and the pat down was about as invasive as it could be without having to be in a private room.
Total bullshite.

That increasingly appears to be how the U.S. Military is fulfilling recruiting quota shortfalls. That or opening a recruiting station in Golden Corrals.

Unfortunately I have to fly out of ATL most of the time due to my location, so it's easy to get numb to how bad the TSA employees there can be. Some are good, but they have some of the rudest employees in the airline industry.
Recently we flew back from FRA to ATL, and I told my wife that I'd rather the Bundespolizei patrolling like they do in Frankfurt over the incompetence of the TSA system. In Frankfurt, employees were polite and passengers were respectful.
We also arrived at the international terminal and had to get our luggage through customs, catch a bus to the domestic terminals because there are no locations for busses at the new terminal. It took 30 minutes to get from one side of ATL to the other. In all of that expansion to ATL, they couldn't make the underground train accessible from Concourse F to the main terminal?

The "TSA" is a joke. Airport security in general for the entire history of aviation has been a joke.
We were just lucky that no one ever thought to use an airplane as a suicide bomb before 9/11.
Bin Laden did far more to destroy the US than I suspect he even realized at the time.
