lol.. At my place there are two combo heat/air units.. One in the front and one in the back... Usually the rocket scientists will run the AC in the back and the heat up front.

I did work on a section 8 house a few months back on a really hot day. The thermostat was set to 55 and the actual temperature matched it. I was super impressed. Must be nice when you don't have to pay for it.

I was just thinking earlier how women must be genetically engineered to not understand how a thermostat works. No matter how many times I explain it to Mrs Wishn she still does the same shite
It's interesting though, Mama Wishn understands them perfectly. She also got divorced from Wishn Sr 20 years ago. It's almost like when not taken care of by a man they live with women suddenly gain the ability to figure this kind of shite out.

Ha! Been trying to get my wife to understand for years, she still can't get it. Gal at work too same thing, kept jacking the temperature up like that was going to make the heater work faster.

The staff lounge at my old job. Always set at 50 or 80. Never a happy medium until I walked in. Then “who moved the thermostat?” I never confessed. Too much effort to explain to then be accused on Man-splaining.

I mean sure, if you’re already within 1.5 degrees of setpoint with a 2-stage system then it might help. But that’s just because you basically have a wider deadband with a 2-stage system.
If it’s 60 degrees and you have the heat set to 70, cranking it to 90 isn’t going to do anything. A multi-stage, variable speed, etc. system is already going to be running at full blast either way.

Me and GF lived in a 1br loft with 20 ft ceilings and a huge skylight. Thermostat was upstairs and she would set it to 65...when it was over 90 the a/c would never cycle off. she just couldn't understand the unit was too small for the area and it wouldn't cool more than 20 degrees lower than the outside temp.

Wrong! Okay so the temp is very likely to be 1.5 deg below set point unless you live in a house built by Lexus so now you get to second stage immediately and guess what, whether you have it set at 70, 80, or 90, if your house is 64 inside it's still going to take the same time to warm up to 70. It has two stages, the higher of which engages pretty quickly. Not like twenty stages.
Also I absolutely hate when people say "WRONG" on the internet like theyre some sort of computer. And they're usuall not exactly right either.

Why can't grown adults read a map? Why can't they drive a car, load a dishwasher, etc.

During the summer my wife would turn the thermostat to 68 thinking it would cool faster.
I had to explain to her that's not how it works, and she gave me the usual female answer, "well that's just stupid"..

My theory is maybe they think it will work similarly to how it works in a vehicle. If they have it set to auto and 60 deg, it will kick the blower on the highest speed and won't take that long to cool off on a hot day. But I also might be giving them too much credit. ha

I fully understand the mechanics of a thermostat but if its hot in the house in the summer I will crank that fricker down as low as it will go. I know it does not do a thing in the world but by god I am taking action.
I feel the same way about thermostats in winter...if someone wants to crank it up why the hell not? It may well make them think they're warmer. My dad is 84 and lives with us and is cold all the time...he fricks with the thermostat constantly...to the point that we often have the heater running with doors open. It makes him happier. It costs almost nothing. Why not?

Dual zone AC in a vehicle is the height of stupidity. My wife is CONSTANTLY fricking with the AC in our vehicles...it seems to make her happy. Happiness is a rare commodity in our modern world...why frick with her about it? At the end of the day the damned thing is going to be close to the same temp no matter where you are in that what, 144 cubic feet?
