Take away Stingley and Ricks who both were coming here with or without Raymond and those DB classes his last few years were bad for a place called DBU. He missed on more than just Surtain and Ricks 2.0.

You really can't do that in a vacuum. If you're getting Stingley and/or Ricks, it changes the recruitment of the other potential players.

Surtain was never coming here. At least that's what his cousin told me. He said FSU or Bama throughout his entire recruitment.

It’s not false if you have a brain and actually look into recruiting. Raymond missed out on several top targets his last couple years at LSU including Surtain and that other Bama DB. He lost all of his top recruits while at UF. Yeah we got Stingley and Ricks at the end, but Stingley was a childhood LSU prodigy he was always coming here he said so himself. Ricks loved Orgeron since he was a kid he was always coming to play for Orgeron at LSU he said so himself.

Still false. It's well known that late in Raymond's tenure at LSU teams were negatively recruiting the fact that a guy that was committing to DBU couldn't be sure if Raymond would be his coach for a year, much less the three or four guys stay, due to the fall the program took under O. Specifically the last year. But prior to that, Raymond was still recruiting and evaluating DB talent at a super high level. Even then, being you brought up Stingley, here's the guys Raymond recruited to LSU:

Derek Stingley
Maurice Hampton
Raydarious Jones
Jay Ward
Cordale Flott
Eli Ricks
Dwight McGlothern
Sage Ryan
Damarius McGhee

We can have the debate of how he develops them once they're here, but quite frankly to even try and say Corey couldn't get dudes if he were to come back is asinine. Defensively we would be considerably better off right now if the standards of secondary recruiting hadn't dipped after Raymond left.

and to piggy back off that, to say his recruiting at Florida was poor as well is also asinine considering there were two five stars (or on the cusp of 5*'s) that literally decommitted from Florida and signed elsewhere just this year because of them letting him go.

best case scenario raymond is energized to be back at his alma mater after learning the grass isnt always greener and re-establishes DBU.

worst case scenario raymond continues to struggle with pulling big fish recruits and DBs continue to lack technique and form.

hoping for the best case

That’s my opinion on the matter. He may be re-energized to be home after going to Florida and being fired.

Or he may be the same as his last few years at LSU which is still better than Steeples/Cooks

Wouldn’t be the worst hire but there are other options. I feel pretty indifferent about this hire. It’s better than what we had.

Stingley’s dad said numerous times he came primarily because of Raymond.

Right ! Raymond recruited and developed the DB’s on the 2019 championship team and had 2 number 1 rated CB’s for two consecutive classes! Maybe 3 if you throw in Fulton
