Just a fact. Corey + Frank + Baker + Kelly will be a great recruiting tandem. Let's knock DL coach out of the park.

This is how we should look at it. It's the totality of the staff that should be assessed. CR should be able to pull top players and Baker can scheme the talent.

Much more worried about development and Corey holding us hostage every offseeason, although maybe since he's left and come back that will stop.

I don't think this will be an issue again. He lost all leverage. The only way he gains it back is to field an elite backfield and if that's the case it's a win for LSU.

I like it.

Corey Raymond, like Cortez Hankton and Frank Wilson, and even Brad Davis, are worth more to LSU vs any other out of state program they have worked at. They are Game-Genies once in-state.

Brian Kelly knows LSU's defensive problems are talent, not scheme. You have to add coaches are going to get bodies in here. And Raymond will. Starting with the 2025 5* at Westgate.

To be fair, Napier’s job security is the reason they lost all those recruits

Exactly, but chicken will say he never said Saban to Texas. He tried to tell me that also.

I’ve been unduly hard on Raymond. We talk about that 2021 defense being a disaster, but we had Bama bottled up that year. The defense clamped down when it needed to. And on the 2020 defense, we had Ricks become an All-American. So… maybe we should.

Unbelievable, not really, but so many ranters melting over this. Yea , the guy fell off a bit at the end of his last run. That was under O, for one, now we have a real coach and hopefully Kelly fills out the rest of the d staff with studs to surround him. Give it a chance.

LSU's secondary turned poor not because of lack of talent that Raymond recruited, but due to attrition. Not sure how that narrative developed into he was lazy.

I hope Coach Baker has a lot of input on DB coverages. Without, it'll be back to underperforming secondary.

He couldn't bring it in when he was last here. Why would he start now?

He had Filsiame 5-star and Wardell Mack 4-star at UF. They left when he got fired.

That's just it. The DC handles the play-call which includes coverages and pressures. The DB coach is responsible for getting them ready to play by teaching technique and communication.

Sure wish Mack hadn't signed yet. I bet he'd be LSU's now and we'd have a perfect 10/10 in the state.

Baker will call the defense. That includes the secondary coverages

Your post shows everything.

It’s about the Jimmys and Joes not Xs and Os. They have to get better talent and develop them. You can only advance a mediocre football player so much. LSU has had many busts in the past few years under O and lackadaisical scouting/recruiting.

It’s not false if you have a brain and actually look into recruiting. Raymond missed out on several top targets his last couple years at LSU including Surtain and that other Bama DB. He lost all of his top recruits while at UF. Yeah we got Stingley and Ricks at the end, but Stingley was a childhood LSU prodigy he was always coming here he said so himself. Ricks loved Orgeron since he was a kid he was always coming to play for Orgeron at LSU he said so himself.

Every coach misses on some top players when they go after the best. You called out 2.

2017:
Jacoby Stevens
Grant Delpit
Kary Vincent
Todd Harris

2018: (transition year with head coach)
Kelvin Joseph

2019:
Derek Stingley
Mo Hampton
Raydar Jones
Jay Ward
Cordale Flott

2020:
Eli Ricks
Dwight McGlothern

That's a ton of talent and with Aranda who hates recruiting. A lot of attrition, but I think Kelly does a masterful job at preventing that in the portal era.

We will recruit very well with Corey + Baker + Frank + Kelly.

I don't question CR's ability to identify talent, he's proven that

I do question his ability to close on kids in recent years

Pat Surtain
Nate Wiggins
Cormani McClain
Wardell Mack
etc

You're not going to get them all obviously, but when DBU is having to settle for Damarius McGee et al then it's time to turn in the DBU card

He recruited the DB position pretty damn well at UF last year. This year there was turmoil and he was let go, so you really can't judge him on that.

That's a lazy argument.
