Spiegelman: LSU's Co-oc's

Spiegelman keeps saying on Jordy's show (I know, I know) LSU has announced hankton and Sloan as co-oc.
Haven't seen it announced anywhere else, I've heard speculation but no announcement.

Nothing official has been released but Sloan locked up the job by getting Underwood IMO.
I think the delay is with Hankton. The rumor in coaching circles is that Hankton is listening to offers from other programs. He had discussions with A&M about their vacant WR position, and now Bama is lurking. I get the vibe he has one foot out the door and is just looking for the right spot.

Would be a huge loss.

If they were hiring from the outside we would have heard candidate names by now.

Yea, I think they’ve offered Sloan the OC and perhaps Hankton as Co-OC or PGC and are waiting on Hankton to decide if he’s leaving.

Strange. Spiegelman doesn't strike me as someone who would say that without verifying it. But, yeah, no official announcement from LSU.
Also would be disappointing if Hankton left for anything but a promotion. Coaching WRs at Bama isn't a promotion. It'd be a demotion unless it comes with another title in there.

Hankton already has the PGC title

What is Hankton looking for? Is he going to be offered an OC position? You are currently in charge of the leading university for WRs in the NFL since dating back almost a decade.
I'd be interested to hear this story. I have no qualms about Hankton wanting to run an offense. However, I want to understand why he would be shopping himself when his talent pool in this state is better than any in the country from a WR perspective. That is unless he is getting OC offers.

Raise? More responsibility, i.e. coordinator position, recruiting coordinator or associate head coach title? Not sure why he'd leave for lateral position. If he stays he'll be in line for a oc or hc position at smaller schools sooner than later with how LSU has been churning out wr talent to nfl.

Hankton went from about being terminated by the bulldogs to a hot commodity

And? They are retooling the staff. Perhaps they offered him his same role.

Well, as usual, someone on Jordy's show is taking something very specifically stated and interpreting it to mean something else. Hankton and Sloan were announced as co-OCs for the bowl game, not for the upcoming season.
Apparently, Spiegleman is as big an idiot as Jordy. But he will backtrack if it ends up being other than what he said. He will claim he wasn't wrong and that people are taking what he said out of context.
Edited to correct a brain fart.

Hankton is the highest paid WR coach in CFB that isn't also the OC. 3rd overall. He's never been an OC. He's from New Orleans (St Aug).
Maybe he gets another raise or co-OC title, but I don't see where he would get an OC shot unless he goes to a G5 school and they aren't paying him more than 900k to be their OC.

Of course Bama is lurking. SMH.

Hankton is the benefit of two NFL caliber number 1s at the wide receiver position. Is he really that good or were the players just that good? We don't really know yet. I don't think we need to worry too much if the guy doesn't want to stay.

It’s a weird spot for hankton IF he truly has aspirations of being an OC.
We are compensating him very well and I’m sure will get a raise with a Co-OC. With that said if he really wants the whole enchilada he has to take a paycut to go to a smaller school to be an OC and call plays.
As it is he has the opportunity to “be home” make a lot of money BUT basically have your job security dependent on someone else (presumably Sloan would be the play caller) AND put off any dreams of a high level non “co” OC job for a few years. If lifetime position coach/associate head coach is his goal then jump on it. Nothing wrong with that. Frank Wilson has made a hell of a living essentially doing that
Not gonna blame him for taking a little time to think and see his options

Hankton wants that Co-OC title and as I have stated and we are seeing BK has a history of promoting from within. He is not leaving for a lateral transfer. I can tell you that.

Hankton is not going to get a major OC job. So if that is his issue with LSU it's somewhat foolish because the market isn't going to give him what he wants. He's one of, if not the highest paid WR coaches in the nation. I don't blame him for trying to leverage this season into more money (strike while the iron is hot). But, if he wants to eventually be a OC I think his best move would be to serve as co-OC at LSU. Otherwise, he would have to take an OC job at a much lower level school...which could be a career killer.
