Recruiter-first positional coaches are a super risky hire for coordinator positions
__________________________________________________________
When we hired Hankton, it was reported that he had HC aspirations, and he'd eventually find himself being named in hiring cycles as a viable candidate. That was proved when he was interviewed for the Rams OC job. It's clear that he's more than a recruiter first position coach. If we gonna say Sloan developed a 4 year starter...we gotta say that Hankton developed multiple 1st round WRs, and highly productive NFL WRs to that same tune. Anyone is replaceable, but to try and gloss over Hankton's body of work is absurd. Especially if we're comparing it to Sloan's...who's body of work isn't better than Hankton's.

I think the delay is with Hankton. The rumor in coaching circles is that Hankton is listening to offers from other programs. He had discussions with A&M about their vacant WR position, and now Bama is lurking. I get the vibe he has one foot out the door and is just looking for the right spot.
He was WR coach for one of the top offenses in the country and has 2 WR that are likely to be first round draft choices. He wants to maximize the opportunity and strike while it's hot.

Hankton and Sloan were named co-Dc’s for the game
and here I am calling a guy an idiot
Thanks for the heads up

Jerry Sloan is still looking pretty good saw him a few weeks ago.

He needs to show he's a viable coordinator. A single interview (for a job he didn't come close to getting) doesn't really say much.

Sloan already had OC experience in D1A prior to coming to LSU. Hankton has never been an OC, let alone an OC on that level.

I'm talking about his path to a major coordinator job.
I'm not glossing over anything.
He's going to have to drop down a level (maybe 2) to cut his teeth as an OC before he gets a call from a big boy.

Sloan has been an OC. Hankton hasn't. That puts Sloan well ahead of Hankton in terms of a job as a major CFB OC.

I think we should make them co-OC’s, and it certainly appears that’s what’s happening.
As someone else posted, my guess is they’re probably waiting on Hankton to accept so they don’t officially announce it and 2 days later Hankton leaves.

I agree with this.
Hankton is in the Corey Raymond mold, apparently.

Only reason taking this long is if Grubbs rumor has any traction
You at least talk to someone like that
Sloan is a no brainer to me unless hankton is entertaining other offers

Hankton wants that Co-OC title and as I have stated and we are seeing BK has a history of promoting from within. He is not leaving for a lateral transfer. I can tell you that.
So was he talking to a&m about a co-oc title?

If we hire anyone over Sloan for our OC, we have lost our minds. Someone better give Nuss and Bryce a call and let them weigh in on this OC hire.
Only LSU could be stupid enough to not hire Sloan. If Hankton wants to leave, let him go. I hope he stays, but not at the expense of losing Sloan as our next OC.

Haven't we learned our lesson, LSU is not a school for on the job training.
We are going to take a big step back in offensive production because JD is gone. You cannot take an even larger step back with gameplanning and play calling.
