My neighbor is on the Board of Supervisors and I’ll keep this short. Take it as you want but they are definitely looking into Grubb at Washington and there is mutual interest. However there is a big push to keep Sloan and promote from within from the team and recruits.

Maybe they can get Grubb and keep Sloan?

Oh yeah my neighbor is Brian Kelly and he says LSU will win the bowl game by 21 points. I mean some of you people just make me laugh.

Kinda hesitant on this since he has zero ties to the south (for recruiting purposes) and apart from this season at Washington, what has he shown in previous roles? I didn't follow Fresno State close while he was there but I don't remember them having much offensive fire power.

This worries me because it feels like a "in the moment" kind of thing. 1 year sample size isn't enough.

Well, maybe Tuesday is a day where something happens because at that point either Grubb or Bo Davis will have finished their season.

I don’t know why any rational thinker would assume Sloan deserves a promotion after 2 yrs, especially when looking at his OC history as a schemer and play caller. Just give him a raise and continue to evaluate him. Perhaps when the next OC leaves he could be a better contender for the job at that time.

LSU doesn’t need to take risks. More times than not we’ve seen a promotion from within not work out. Nobody is entitled to anything especially at this level.

How much is Washington's offensive success is due to Grubb vs. Deboer, who was an OC before moving up to HC. Also, how much is due to Penix - I think Denbrock cashed in on Jayden's talent, Grubb may be doing the same.

He’d be in a similar situation here. If they went this route it would be to get a veteran voice in the room in lieu of Denbrock more so than him coming in here and bringing in Washington’s offense (obviously some concepts and influence would happen but this is BKs offense at the end of the day)

Still doesn’t feel like a likely scenario. More likely that Grubb is leveraging an open LSU OC job for his own raise. Given our history of paying coordinators, that’s probably a nice leverage play for any big name coordinator with an agent doing his job.

He just got a raise last year after Saban tried hiring him away from UW.

I agree this doesn't feel like a likely scenario.

Also,...

quote:

Grubb was asked if there’s a sense of satisfaction in sticking with Washington and then immediately helping the team to the Playoff.

“Yeah, very satisfying,” Grubb said. “I think regardless of other opportunities, I think this was the reason I came to Washington. And I know when Kalen and I first started talking about him taking that job, and if I would go with or not, my response was pretty quick to accept the position.

“… I felt like our system would work almost anywhere — just how we relate to people and get the culture right within the locker room, that big things were possible.’

Grubb has been with DeBoer at both Sioux Falls and Fresno State. He was one of five assistants who followed DeBoer from Fresno State to Washington after the 2021 season.

Doubt this guy leaves Washington any time soon.

If Washington somehow wins the natty then the coordinator positions will be inline for head coaching gigs. Don’t believe he would transfer for the same position.

Why is it so hard to believe some people might know people close to LSU football?

He's also making $2 mil a year at UW through the 2025 season.

Isn't that about what our coordinators top out at?

I think he considered Bama, but in the end he leveraged interest last year for additional money last year as well.

Don’t blame him at all for doing so.

Letting the inmates run the asylum never goes poorly. Good coaches and programs ignore these kinds of "pushes" and get the best coach available.

LSU fans wants to believe Kelly is the solution of the defense problem this year. That is the top priority Brian Kelly need to fix and he failed at that the last two years. House came in as a homerun hired. What the heck happened? Kentucky fans wanted him back. Maybe need to think about Brian Kelly might not be the right fit to get LSU to win another championship.
