The irony is they want the government to be the ceo. It's the same thing. Someone has to run it.

U.S. energy CEOs are awarding themselves millions in bonuses as their companies go bankrupt
quote:
Whiting Petroleum, the sector’s first big casualty in the wake of the crash, paid five executives US$14.6 million as it filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in April. Extraction Oil & Gas, the second big name to go, handed 16 executives US$6.7 million this month — a week before it sought protection.
quote:
Perhaps most egregious was Chesapeake Energy, which is expected to join the list of casualties imminently. Last month the company paid 21 executives US$25 million.
California Resources, also on the brink, tweaked its compensation structure in March so that its chief executive would get a severance package worth double his salary and bonus if he is sacked without cause. He earned US$10.5 million last year.
quote:
Chief executives at large independent producers earned 138 per cent of their target bonus pay over the past three years — suggesting they outperformed their agreed goals — according to research by Evercore. Yet over that period total returns to shareholders fell 55 per cent.

never heard of most of those small to medium sized energy companies.

youve never heard of Chesapeake or Whiting?

What are you even talking about? Lots of buzzwords, but no context.

What could possibly go wrong when making these kinds of generalizations, with all critics of CEO pay labeled as "socialists"?
Since 1978, CEO pay has increased by 1460 % inflation, average worker pay by 18%, adjusted for inflation.

So you're not a fan of socialism or liberalism but you seem to be a fan of totalitarianism and forced collective thought....interesting

That was the first quasi-analogy I thought of and the first example was paying Les Miles $2m to leave Kansas after he royally fricked up the program.
There are CEOs that are worth every penny of their exorbitant salaries but there are some that drive their companies off a cliff and still get huge golden parachutes on the way out the door of a company that is circling the drain.

Here is the issue.
CEO does well, company does well, he gets paid, workers don’t get any benefit
CEO sucks, company crashes, he gets paid, workers get laid off.
If a CEO is good, pay him tons of bonuses but don’t forget the workers who execute the strategy.

Why has the gap expanded between ceo and worker pay as a percentage?
CEO should make a lot more of course, but the disparity is getting greater.
Why is that?
