I don’t know if it really slowed down or everyone just gave up on reporting it.

Greater NO means Metairie, Kenner, Covington, Slidell, Belle Chase, etc... Nobody is breaking into cars at the Rouse's in Metairie or Belle Chase.

So your denominator was off by 4x, which really tilts the math even if only ten cars were broken into that day. Which is another choice of math. Why use "per day"? Are we only talking about Tuesdays or Fridays? Thursdays don't count??? Because your insurance company spreads your claims over a year. And you'll have to pay for the deductable regardless of what day, and then higher rates for a few years.

There are over 10,000 car burglaries per year in a down year according to the link below from WWL. That means there are about 25-30/day, not ten.

That means you have a 0.03 chance of being broken into each year in New Orleans. That's rotten odds.

But here’s the truth… google says greater NO population is 1.2 million. So let’s say there’s 500,000 cars in the area. That’s less than half the population.

Here’s the truth. Your numbers are comical. Three are about 376,000 people in New Orleans. The average for the first five months was 23 cars per day stolen. That number has dropped to about 20 cars per day stolen. Reported break ins were sober 20 per day as of July. That is just reported, and we all know not every break in is reported. So, quadruple your number of break-ins/thefts and reduce the number of cars by a significant amount to get a somewhat more accurate read.

Social media isn't an official, but people would have had to given up on posting about it there too. Which seems unlikely given how social media works.

The real answer is NOPD is working with the feds. There’s a heavy presence of federal guys here now targeting the car break ins and they’re doing a great job breaking it up.

There’s still the random break ins, but nothing like it was a year or couple months ago.

Not sure what car he drove, but he was dumb enough to leave his bag by the fence away from where everyone else was set up. The thieves took the key right out his bag. Someone said they saw 2 men lurking around the parking lot.

It’s still happening.

I haven’t heard gunshots nearby since last December though. Things are looking up!

someone attempted to break into my vehicle, but the glass wouldn't break. I got it fixed and didn't report it. No point.

Also, the things citizens report are being mis-classified on purpose to make it appear that serious crime is down.

I talked to someone recently who watched and recorded someone an attempted burglary. He reported it, provided the video and it was classified as loitering.

So you have LESS THAN HALF OF A PER CENT for your car to be broken into one time per year? Seems statistically low to me.

They would even hit the parking areas

I was in New Orleans for college at the height of the massive wave of car break ins. They would come by on campus and hit every single car in one lot during the night. One night when we got broken into, they said it was about 50 cars in the one lot on campus that got his. If I remember correctly, police even told peole to just take stuff out of their cars and leave it unlocked.

All of the car repair and window shops around campus began to offer subscription plans, which was kind of genius if you ask me. I had friends that got broken into multiple times. It was frustrating, glad to be out of that city now.

Half a percent is 1 in 200. That's pretty fricking high in the civilized world.

ETA: We've also showed that it's much higher chance than the garbage math you did, but props for even coming back to the thread

Teedy says crime is down 20%… even though it initially went up 176%
