Does the #5 get retired?

Considering the #20 is already retired, and the #9 is “de facto” retired, it only makes sense that the #5 will be, at least, taken out of use?

Hope not, it’s stupid. Put them in a ring of honor in the stadium, not utilizing numbers is just silly though.

I love Daniels but you have to at least win it all for a jersey retire. I mean I think it’s dumb but at least give me TEAM legendary. Without him we’re a sixish win team but

I’m not a huge fan of retiring numbers.
But if we did retire 5 it can’t happen before 9 is retired.

Not only do I think #5 and #9 should not be retired, but I think #20 should be unretired.

Logistically, retiring numbers in college football isn’t very feasible. You 100 numbers to utilize (0-99). Many teams have just over 100 players, including walk-one. There are already several numbers being worn by multiple players. You have to be strategic with that because you can’t have two guys with the same number on the field simultaneously. Typically you’ll have one guy on offense and the other on defense. But if those guys both play special teams, you could cause some headaches. Retiring numbers just makes all of that a little more difficult to maneuver.

Retiring numbers is just dumb in general. Give them a plaque or statue, you’re also hurting your future recruiting efforts if a high school kid can’t wear his favorite number if it’s gone.

It’s so hard to retire single digit numbers to begin with.
I think what ultimately ends up happening in 15-20 years is 9 gets retired, 5 does not. The ONLY reason being 9 got a natty.

Nobody has worn 9 since Burrow

72 needs to be in this discussion as well.

I wouldn't even retire 9.
But you only get to wear it if you have the balls and ability to live up to it.

This is one of the few times you'll see me compliment ND on anything but I think it's cool how they don't retire numbers and instead continue to pass them on.

Only 20 and 9 should be retired
Not 5

Hope not. Give him a statue and maybe name in the stadium.

Hang their jerseys up. Honor them. But don’t retire numbers. 20 should live on. That number belongs to LSU and another player wearing it only adds another opportunity to further its legacy. Same goes for 9 and 5 and 7 and 18. Let those numbers continue in the service of LSU just as the players who wore them before.

IMO, no.
Retired jerseys should be reserved for those who play their entire career here. For example, retire Dylan Crews but not Paul Skenes. IMHO.

He gets into the stadium ring of honor.

I personally think it should be retired and that should be the standard for any Heisman winner.
