That contract will destroy the Dodgers
It's not gonna destroy them but it will hinder them from making any long-term commitments for the foreseeable future now that 3 players in him Ohtani, Freeman and Betts make up the vast majority of their payroll.

Not arguing otherwise, but there are a lot of Braves fans in the thread trying to hide their extreme concern behind discussions of whether or not the Dodgers will make back their money.
I’ll begin worrying about the Dodgers once we decide to show up to a playoff series against Philadelphia. What LAD does is irrelevant until we stop choking in the NLdS

Money can’t necessarily buy championships, but it can buy playoff appearances.
It also buys attention, and fans. I know the players don’t want a cap, but it’s a problem that the majority of the league has no chance of retaining a player like this.
The Chiefs can keep Mahomes. The Bucks can keep Giannis. The Royals and Brewers will never replicate that and I think that’s an issue for the league as a whole.

And you are thinking micro, very little picture if you don’t think the Dodgers will easily recoup that $700 million investment. It has very little to do with wind and it will last MUCH longer than 10 years. They’ll be making hundreds of millions in Asia decades after he retires. Hell, decades after he dies. 100 years from now, kids all over Japan will be rocking Ohtani Dodgers jerseys and hats.
This is such a massive reach. The entirety of your opinion is based on a “what if” scenario.

They can have the widget bot.
ATL breeds homegrown superstars
We don’t need him and his overpriced contract to bog us down for a decade

It's like he doesn't understand basic economics.

That's about the same money that Betts and Judge get combined. That is insane! Think about that for a minute.

I understand them in this situation better than you do. Laugh all you want

Thinking about it now but why didn’t the Angels see the writing on the wall and try to move him for a haul last season?

Bc they have what might be the most inept owner in the sport

We’re not too far off from seeing a player get a billion dollar contract.
There's a chance we could've seen it with Ohtani had he not gotten injured.

I guess we’re looking at 10/$500 million for Soto next year

Fun fact. Shohei will make more next season than the 2023 opening day payrolls of the Baltimore Orioles ($60.7M) and the Oakland A's ($56.9M)
