My dress shoes are $250 or so and a shoe shine from a guy in the subway is $50. Damn I can buy a new pair for cost of 5 shines. What’s your dress shoes?
it takes at most 10 minutes to shine your own shoes and the materials are cheap. If the guy on the subway can manage it i think you probably can.

Just bought a pair of Beckett Simonons. Don’t plan to shine them though.

I’ve got various brands that need a shine including every day brown leather shoes. Buy a black and brown kit and sole dressing. Put polish on, let dry, buff off. Dress the edges of the soles and done. I’ve done it since I was a kid.

I’ve got around 15 to 20 pairs worth shining.
Usually around $7.00 to $10 then tip $5.00

I call BS on a $50 dollar shine. The best shoe shine guy (literally in the world) is Lloyd on the lobby of the CME building in Chicago. He's $8 bucks. 2nd best are the guys in the basement of Rockefeller Center and they're about $10 or $12.

Many pairs of boots, shine my own

Yes, and generally shine my own shoes, but when I do pay for it, I’ve never been scammed out of $50. That’s obscene

I don’t “shine” my shoes, but I do condition several of them with Venetian shoe cream and buff them with a horsehair brush.

I have some black Doc Martens from the 90’s that are still in great shape. I hardly ever wear them, but I polish them myself.

I find shoe shining to be therapeutic. During army basic training it was one of the only times you could sit quietly and do something. I shine at least one pair of shoes every month or so.
Same here. I love shining my shoes, boots etc. I worked construction when I was young and was treated as some kind of complete oddity because I shined my work boots every day.
As a side note, I did technical interviews for a very desirable company to work for. We did groups of interviews on scheduled days. All the interviewees were in a big room and I was standing next to the head of HR. I leaned over and pointed out 6 or 7 guys in the room and told the HR guy at the end of the day, we're going to make those guys offers. He said "you've lost your mind, there's no way you can know that". I said "everyone of those guys took the time to shine their shoes. They will be well prepared and well qualified". He just laughed at me. At the end of the day, they were all chosen for an offer.

Yes, I shine my own shoes every two months or so. I find it therapeutic to do sitting on the porch with a drink while the kids play.
Also have an automatic buffer in my office. It’s pretty sweet.

The shoe shiners at the Charlotte Airport are the best in the game. $20 (plus tip) and worth it.
They finish the shine off with the heat seal - stays looking good for months.

A man should shine his own shoes anyway.
A gentleman should have his shoes professionally shined a few times a year (but not for $50).

There are two older gentlemen who are brothers at MSY, one at C and one at B concourse.
Think they charge $7, I just give them a $10 for wonderful shine, takes about 10 minutes.

Yup. Several.
I do enjoy getting a nice shine from the shoeshine men at airports.
