My son wants an Xbox for Christmas

Help a brother out who retired after Super Nintendo...
My son says he wants to play Madden with his friends.
I've been trying to educate myself, but before I pull the trigger can anyone help confirm that these are good deals and sufficient.
Xbox Series S 512 GB for $249.99
I see there is a 1TB version that is over $400. Is that overkill?
Madden 24 digital downoad for $34.99
Is this similar to Fortnite? No physical disk or game card, just digital download of the game over the internet to the gaming console...
Any other advice or sales I should look at?

Go to GameStop and talk to the smelliest, grungiest person you can find. Let his BO/funk guide you to the right choice.

Xbox is out dated. Get him the X-Game 360 with the gun attachment.

Doing the same for our kids this Christmas. Also looking at buying the 3 month game pass that provides access to hundreds of games for like $15/month
Btw, I HATE this subscription model of fricking everything.

The base series S has enough storage for a couple games and he can download and delete and space necessitates.

That would be for the Xbox Series X which would be overkill unless he really wants to do 4K gaming.

That is correct, nearly all games still have to be patched Day 0 but it shouldn't take long for Madden.

Be prepared to pay monthly for Xbox Live which will be about $15/month but it will include GamePass which includes a lot of games including previous versions of Madden.

get him a basketball

You might as well get him the newest model. The Model X.

The series s is trash. Get him a ps5 instead but if you insist on Xbox, the series X is what he wants

Video games stayed under inflation for sure. I remember my 1992 Genesis costing over $300 then anther $250 for the cd drive alone.

Storage doesn’t matter. He needs a quality headset to talk with his friends. Need to plug the controller…my son’s is micro USB into the box so you don’t eat AA batteries like crazy. Those cords are usually 3 ft…so one s bit longer is nice. You’re going to be shocked with how loud he gets when playing Fortnite or the like…they have a blast talking with friends on there.

The digital version of a game is ok, just don’t get the digital console that doesn’t take discs.

I have the Series S and Series X.
On a regular tv you can't tell much of a difference between the two.
Get the Series S if you are looking to save a little money. You can always hook up external storage to transfer games to and from the console for cheap..and the older Xbox one games will play right from that storage.

What if his friends get a PS5 ?
That's what all the kids want now

Xbox's naming conventions are so damn confusing. That's enough reason for me to stick with playstation.
