We got lucky with stops against a 3rd string QB. The defense didn’t change, lol. It’s still bad
It absolutely did (in 4Q) and CBK confirmed it in Press Conference

They tackled. It’s crazy, I know.

I’m not sure what y’all’s point is? House called his first blitz ever? The QB threw a horrendous pick? What conspiracy do you have about the second half defense?
One point is that our players, like 99% of college football players, tend to play better in a more aggressive mode than in read and react. It is very difficult for them not be passive and slow in this kind of scheme. There’s a reason it isn’t very popular with college DCs. It’s one of 1,000 reasons why House isn’t a fit in the college game.
It’s a hopeful note for next season. Some of these players will look a lot better in an attacking scheme run by a new defensive staff.

The D was still assignmentless football. Even a blind squirrel finds an acorn every once in a while. We should up for 2 series today in the last half of the last game of the year. There were no adjustments

If this is true why did it take until the last game of the season second half to make that change
That’s a fair question but it doesn’t change the fact they the defense was called different starting mid 3rd quarter

No, the defense changed. You’re letting us know you don’t know football

There are things we know…and thinggs we don’t
We know: The defense was different. Kelly said what the change was. The tape shows it. The results were better.
We don’t know: was House involved in all of it. Was it his idea? Did he call the second half? Did someone else?

Maybe House convinced Kelly to turn him loose... who knows

Brian Kelly “We changed to a cover 2 drop coverage that we haven’t used all year”
So shut up with your nonsense

Idk that pick changed the whole game.

kelly said in the postgame they switched to man with trail under, cover 2 over and they used Perkins as a spy
they have not used man to man trail technique at all this year, which is kind of crazy
TAMU was picking up first downs when we were in zone, specifically the TE in the open spots and delayed crosses
man to main trail technique

Everyone has been. Our zone has sucked all season. But it’s supposed to stop running QBs. I guess that’s why we kept trotting it out there.
Didn’t work.

It’s amazing how much of a difference mixing up different coverages and adding a spy every now and then can make. I have a feeling House took a back seat in the 2nd half. Seemed very different

Straight vanilla zone doesn’t work against any QB with a pulse. The way you get a zone to function is by disguising coverages, blitzing from different areas, dropping your Jack and replacing them with an LB, etc. it’s all built on confusing the QB with lots of looks, but when you play vanilla zone off the ball with no pressure, the QB can easily read what’s happening and just hit gaps.
The advantage of a zone vs a running QB is that 11 guys are facing the QB and can read a QB run and react faster. But when you play read and react and your guys are all way off the ball to start every play and also diagnose slowly, not so good.

If all this is true, the implications should cause this thread to remain at the top of the page.

Actually he did make adjustments he put the spy in the game plan in the second half
Posted on 11/25/23 at 11:00 pm to BanzaiBengal
Aggie QB said we were running different coverages and changed things and they couldn’t adjust to it in the 2nd half. That is what he said in his post game.

The biggest change was we actually made the play, instead of coming close and getting shite on
The head coach flat out said they changed the defensive scheme in the second half.

I thought Sunbelt Billy actually summed up the dilemma of man vs. zone against a running QB pretty nicely, when he was talking about Daniels in postgame a couple of weeks ago.
He said something along the lines of “pick your poison. You can run zone and try to keep everything in front of you, and die by a thousand cuts. Or you can man up and try to bring pressure - but then if he escapes the pocket everyone has their back to the QB.”
The infuriating thing as an LSU fan is that we have been shitting the bed either way. If we man up and send pressure, we don’t get to the QB and we get burned (deep or on the scramble). If we sit back in zone, the QB either finds the weak spot or escapes the pocket and we still can’t stop him.
It hasn’t been one thing holding us back. It’s been pass rush, coverage, open field tackling, run fits - everything.
I will say this, though: I thought the defense seemed to be playing with a lot more confidence in the first half than I had seen previously this year. It also seemed like we were running a lot more man coverage. At the time I just chalked that up to not respecting A&M’s third string quarterback. But then we would go into quarters or something on 3rd & long and get burned over and over again.
It makes me wonder how much of the success after halftime was simply.. staying in man (trail coverage) on 3rd down.

Regardless of the alleged changes, Speights shouldn’t be a starter. Dude whiffed on several plays
