I don’t think will do what Daniels has done this year. But I expect after getting all the #1 reps in spring and fall, he will make a pretty big jump as a starter.

Especially if BK, Denbrock and Sloan lay out a plan for him like they did with Daniels and Nuss goes all in like JD did.

Jayden Daniels himself didn't do what Jayden Daniels did this year.

Joe Burrow himself didn't do what Joe Burrow did the next year.

Problem is, you have asstards that expect 2nd or 3rd year starter production from a first year starter. You have other talent being lost that affects QB1 production.

YOu couldn't ask for a more all in player than Garret Nussmeier. You couldn't ask for a better leader than Garret Nussmeier. You couldn't ask for a better arm talent to come in here than Garret Nussmeier.

If a Quarterback of that caliber transfers anywhere, he will look at places where he’s most likely to be starter. He won’t want to waste a transfer for a place that he won’t.

Most are either grad transfers or with a year of eligibility left. Those are usually looking to improve their draft prospects.

Burrows came here with the confidence that he would win the starting job, because he just has that mindset. JD saw the depth chart and had confidence in starting over a redshirt freshman and a junior with limited experience and a history of injury.

I just don’t think that type of quarterback with their skill sets are that common, especially if there are multiple teams also in the market with worse quarterback rooms.

Kelly has clearly shown a preference for "dual threat" QBs: Brought in Daniels despite having 3 QBs already on the roster. Recruiting Underwood extremely hard.

That said, I don't think LSU would take a DT QB over someone they know in Nussmeier simply to just have a DT QB. IF a DT guy who has experience and a record of excellent production enters the portal I think LSU will at least CONSIDER making a push for him. A coach should ALWAYS explore opportunities to potentially better his team. However, I don't think the staff is sitting there today saying "we HAVE to sign a transfer QB this offseason".

I don't think Kelly went into the 2022 offseason thinking he had to sign a transfer QB. Hence, the reason they didn't in December, January, or early February. However, once Daniels entered the portal it presented an option that wasn't previously available. That changed the thinking.

I promise you, neither one of those guys signed with LSU without some very strong assurances on the front end that they would be the starter

OP wasn't dissing Nuss. Don't be so sensitive Chadwick. You know damn well taking a QB transfer is common now a days.

I mean, assuming Nuss isn't the guy.

Why assume that? Tons of people last season were saying this about Jayden Daniels as well. Some even this season after FSU.

I wouldn't get my hopes up. Last year, the top rated QBs in the portal were Sam Hartman, Devin Leary, and Brennan Armstrong. If that type of QB floats your boat, so be it. Using NIL $$$ to anything besides the defensive side of the ball is a misallocation of funds.

This. Defense HAS to be the priority this offseason. Other than maybe one impact WR with experience, we are in good shape on offense. NIL spending has to be focused on solidifying the defense.

Starting QBs don’t transfer every day outside of coach firings or complete implosions. There is no guarantee you will find anyone beyond a JAG for 1 season of depth. Also, it would be stupid to bring in a potential starter with more than one year of eligibility. That would not help your case with a guy like Underwood, and getting him on-board needs to be a top priority.

More worried about replacing Nabers, Lacy, Diggs production and we're assuming Brian Thomas stays another year

I don't doubt the kid's heart. Seriously. He stayed when others left and I think that gives him a leg up on the competition. And I really, really do hope he wins the spot.

However, I want my team to win. I don't really care about anybody's feelings. These are big boys. They can handle it. If there's a guy who walks in off the street that outplays Nuss, then he's the guy. BK isn't going to risk his job on going with a worse QB because of feelings or loyalty. He's being paid to win. And it's his job to put the best product on the field that can win now. It's not like the Bear or Charlie Mac days where a coach is here for 25 years and can take as long as they want to develop a kid.

We live in a 'Win RIGHT NOW' world. I expect my coach to do whatever it legally takes to deliver on that, no matter what. I really really hope its Nussmeier because he really has earned the shot. But Myles Brennan stayed too and lost the job to one of the greatest QB's we're gonna see in an LSU uni. If you let feelings rule your life, then we're in the SEC cellar.

Brian Kelly is paid to win... period.

Then he should do a better job of portaling defensive talent.

I like Nuss, but I don't think it's dissing Nuss to consider all options. This type of attitude reminds me of the Myles Brennan loyalists. I hope Nuss is awesome as a starter here.

Brennan and Nuss are nowhere near same type of comparisons. Brennan didn’t have the work ethic or leadership Nuss has at all. He also got hurt and never was the same.

If you or Nuss can't handle any competition, then we don't need you as a fan or him as our quarterback.

Only one guy on LSU's list of potential QB transfers. It is an OU backup.

would Nuss have a negative reaction to bringing in another QB though? I’m sure they would like to have insurance in case Nuss would get hurt, Collins is still raw.
i.e. at Ole Miss, they brought in Sanders and Howard to push Dart and it seems to have worked out in their favor.

Justyn Martin redshirt freshman UCLA.
He was a 4 star coming out of Inglewood Ca.
Strong Arm and Mobile.
Should be looking around. They started the true freshman over him.
