Trump plans to create American Academy - a federally controlled online college

This is among the worst ideas he has ever come up with. Even if he's successful in taxing Harvard's endowment, Democrats would immediately undo that when they retake power and repay Harvard. Imagine a day when someone like Gavin Newsom and AOC got control over this.
It would also necessitate a pretty massive increase to the Dept. of Education.

If this gives people the opportunity to get a college education for free from a recognized institution, then I’m all for it. LSU fricking you on fees? Take the class at the American University. CSU trying to hit you up for out of state tuition? Spend the first couple of semesters at the American University until you establish residency.
I don’t see how this could cost more than a fraction of providing “free” education at brick and mortar schools.

Tax the endowments, make the tax progressive, give the taxes to parents in the form of vouchers to use for private schools. A government-run school is a fricking awful idea. No matter who founds it, it will be taken over by woke bureaucrats and professors.

Even if that were the case, are those courses free? If not then who will pay for said courses? Who will aggregate the courses? What if a million people signed up for this, you don't think that would require thousands of new hires to the DoE?
Also most of my fear would be post-Trump. You can't create something like this that will be used as another weapon for Democrats to use against us.
