I guess the democrat plan is just get everyone in debt on a worthless degree then pay it off with taxes from people that didn’t go to college or paid off theirs.

Tell me you know nothing about economics without saying you know nothing about economics. When has taxing anything made it less expensive? The answer is that it has never occurred in the history of mankind.

Jeebus you are an unhinged leftist loon

So much to respond to with your post.

The universities are incentivized by national ranking publications to accumulate huge endowments. They don’t spend this money to reduce tuition costs. So in this specific instance, taxing their endowments would indeed lower education costs by forcing the universities to either spend down the endowments or pay taxes on the money.

How you are unable to understand this is beyond me.

Free online College + non woke = moving to the left

Only a dipshite cult member could say that

If Ron proposed this you would be blowing yourself over it

That’s a problem Ron supporters will never have because-now hear me out-Ron’s an actual conservative who would never be so stupid as to propose something as moronic and big government as a national university.

A national university is something a Democrat would propose. You know, someone like Trump.

I don’t see how this could cost more than a fraction of providing “free” education at brick and mortar schools.

You're skeptical about the federal government's ability to do something poorly and it costing an order of magnitude more than it should?

I guess my economics degree from Chicago was all wrong. You’re right pal. Tax the hell outta them. I guess it was wrong of me to think that the majority of endowments are the result of charitable donations on money that has already been taxed, but that is beside the point.

So I guess we can just raise your taxes and you wouldn’t be clamoring for another dollar or 2 and hour raise?

A little intellectual honesty would be appreciated from Trump fans as they are so fond of lecturing us on what it means to be a conservative.

Okay, I’ve only gone to public schools that are funded by government.

Most people do already.

I think we need more specialized schools. If this helps people get to work, then so be it. A lot of people out there aren’t fit for the college experience. Not everyone needs that.

And all most of you have thrown out is that it’s dumb idea. Great intellectual response from you.

Tech schools, community college, vocational schools, Diesel Driving Academy. The government already runs a job programs with tons of technical schools: the military.

What more do you want?

Do you think universities accumulating multi-billion dollar endowments while also increasing their tuition rates is a problem?

I think it's pretty smart to assume that anything the federal government does will be done poorly and will cost a shite ton more than it should.

Why are Trump and his most fervent supporters such believers in big government?

Also, just so you know, my biggest personal expense are income taxes. The money I pay in taxes at the state and federal level is disgusting. I abhor generally tax increases of any kind. But with that said, I do think in the area of college education that a tax on their multi-billion endowments is totally proper. If that makes me an unhinged leftist, so be it.

These points arent great and none would ever be enacted, but hes throwing something out there which no one else seems to be doing.

At least its not non committal double talk.

At the state and local level run by locally elected people-your friends and families.

No, everybody has given reasons why it’s a harebrained scheme, which is Trump’s specialty.

Do you actually want a new federal entity, that will eventually end up in the hands of people like Erick Swalwell, Chuck Schumer, Nancy Pelosis and Hakeem Jefferies?

This is 180 degrees from anything a real Conservative would propose. It’s just another example of how Trump doesn’t believe in anything except himself, and how little respect he has for Americans, as he attempts to bribe them with “freebies”. He’ll say anything and will do anything to win. He has no morals, no philosophical bearings, no vision-other keeping himself out of jail, and avenging 2020. He’ll lose if he’s the nominee, and his collateral damage will be epic-the Dems further entrenching themselves in power.

It’s amazing. Example after example of how Trump is not a conservative is demonstrated to you by Trump himself, and yet people will throw away everything they once claimed to believe, all because of some weird obsession over one man.

But DeSantis is the RINO.

Not specifically. Endowments are different than tuition. There are a lot of colleges that have insignificant endowments but still charge exhorbitant tuition. In fact, there are very few schools that have billion dollar endowments.

Now, I have a major problem with taxpayers backstopping the student loan program which is a de facto subsidy to colleges. And that is the true cause of tuition increases. Make the universities themselves responsible for the student loans they give.

I’m right there with you. And that is why it is important to have principles with respect to taxes. The day we start taxing things we hate or disagree with is the day we deviate from the very principles we purport to have.
