It's big in the crypto world too. I think it just means people have no lives and are willing to spend countless days focusing on one inane thing.

See, I’m OCD. Not bad mind you, but I have been diagnosed with it. Basically controlled by medication. When I’m not on the medication, I can’t stand things being out of order, but it’s not just that. I am constantly counting and seeing patterns everywhere. It’s not fun, but it’s much more than being a little neat.

We’ve taught an entire generation that you need to be abnormal in some way to have any value, so this would not surprise me.

All males have some level of autism, some more some less. A small bit of autism is required to be able to sit outside, by yourself, with just your thoughts, and be happy. Women do not and cannot understand this.

On the flip side, all women have some level of borderline personality disorder.

think aspergers can be a positive, like Elon Musk. Its a higher functioning part of autism.

Most people who claim autism on line are either self-diagnosed (and exaggerated), or had they been diagnosed would have been diagnosed as Aspergers prior to that designation going out of style. Aspy people are often brilliant at some things and completely and hopelessly inept at things that are automatic for most people.

The difference between what used to be called aspergers and full blown autism was “usefulness”. Basically, autism is a wide spectrum between some weirdness and someone who is complaining dependent on others to survive. Dr. Asperger was a Nazi scientist who set the dividing line between Aspergers and autism as the line of “these are the ones we use” and “these are the ones we exterminate”. As a result, they simply call everything autism spectrum.

The problem is that while that designation was used to justify eugenics, it does have a helpful designation for figuring out how to best help people. Someone on the aspergers end of the spectrum needs very different help as a child to integrate than someone who would fall deeper on the autism side. Lumping both together is as dangerous as equivocating all awkward flirting with sexual assault with rape. These are 3 completely different things that require completely different responses, so they shouldn’t just be lumped together because they’re all sorta related.

I actually am diagnosed aspergers. People wouldn’t pick up on that interacting with me initially because I taught myself how to mask as a teen. Those who know me well can see the tisms, but a relative stranger or casual acquaintance will only see the mask. That mask was developed just to survive as a kid. I didn’t get any help for any of my mental illnesses until I was 29. As a kid, I was at a huge disadvantage trying to “rawdog” mental illness, just knowing I was different but not understanding how or why. I adapted a mask through trial and error until I could sorta pass for normal.

If I had gotten help at 12 years old (or younger, in family videos the autism practically jumps off the screen) instead of at almost 30, I feel like I would have learned much healthier coping mechanisms, social skills, and habits much sooner.

I appreciate your post. I have a nephew in this situation and my brother is putting him in I believe occupational therapy. Any ideas on best ways family could have helped you more or recommendations for kids around 12-13 who are on the spectrum or would have been labeled Asperger’s years ago? Would regular therapy have made a difference?

They started grouping Asperger’s with it so now every socially awkward person claims autism. Just another way for the unsuccessful to try to get a W in their life

I just had a 50 year old coworker tell a group of us at the office he was 'recently' diagnosed autistic

I'm sure this is the reaction I involuntarily provided

My younger brother getting diagnosed with level 1 Autism was the best thing that ever happened him. He got the help he needed and is know independent and understands how to interact with people better.

My Boomer dad didn't want him to pursue a diagnosis and thought he was "just being a pussy" "just needed to work harder", or "was looking for a way out."

If you have a lot of the symptoms, it's better to pursue that than listen to some random chode on the internet with his internet medical degree.

With the increase in awareness of autism you have an increase of knowledge of it being a spectrum. Now every 14 year old middle class white kid that wants to be “unique” and needs some victim points either becomes some “LGBT” or self-diagnosis as on the spectrum.

Sucks because there are some very good research and assistance now for kids with legit autism, even within the last 5 years.

It also looks like a lot of them chose both.

And people who self diagnose for woke points are making it worse for those who need assistance.

There’s a couple things this society promotes, one being a victim that requires pity.

The second is be “original”. Claiming something like autism puts you in a low percentile group. That makes you different and your social status depends on it. Same thing a Harley guy does with his badge of honor or Jeep people do. They just picked a more financially sound investment. It doesn’t cost anything to say you are autistic.

Michael Savage bemoaned the trend in over diagnosing autism 10+ years ago and was vilified for it. I think it harms the people who are truly affected and disabled by it.

No most of these kids are just weird and socially inept so they say they have "a touch of the 'tism." There is an increase in autism, but there is a greater increase in dumbass kids on the internet.

Pretty much this. It’s the “ADD” of the Gen Z’s and Millennial moms

Social cues! For autistic people, they straight up don’t understand them…like AT ALL! This isn’t such a big deal when you’re a little kid because kids are allowed to be a little weird without too many consequences. However, once you get to br a teen, it’s a massive social barrier. I literally had to teach myself how to interact with people by copying the mannerisms of characters on tv. I had to interpret people’s words and actions as I would watch a sitcom because that was the only way I had to make sense of it. It only kinda worked.

The other thing is task sequencing. Often times, I get stuck in these weird logic loops like a computer program that is malfunctioning. A common example:
A. I want food. I don’t have any fresh food in the house. I have to leave the house for food.
B. Before you can leave the house, you have to shower.
C. You need to have clean clothes to change into before you can shower.
D. Clean clothes are In laundry room outside.
E. Outside is anywhere other people can see you. Your neighbors can see you in your backyard or carport going to the laundry room.
E. You cannot leave house without shower.

Then, my brain like shuts down with the human equivalent pf a 404 File not found error. I can be trapped in a loop like that for literally hours until I finally figure out how to make some food out of what’s available or figure out some kind of way to “override” the program and get my clothes out of the laundry room. It’s not laziness, it’s an issue with how my brain sequences tasks.
