It seems like everywhere online, but especially Twitter and Reddit, people are claiming to be autistic. Read something on Twitter today where someone was talking about hooking up on Tinder and they have autistic in the profile. Is this just some new badge of honor for some or has the spectrum gotten so large that if you read or play video games you are now autistic. It also seems that more than half the profiles with pronouns also state this. None of the people who claim this seem to have any issues functioning. What did I miss and why is this a thing now?

You’ll want to know if you’re getting into a long term relationship with someone with ASD. You may not want to see it as a badge of honor so much as a heads up.

No most of these kids are just weird and socially inept so they say they have "a touch of the 'tism."

There is an increase in autism, but there is a greater increase in dumbass kids on the internet.

My guess is some of it is simply self diagnosing. It’s like how lots of people say they are OCD because they like things neat.

All they are saying is “I can’t handle being uncomfortable. Many thing make me uncomfortable.” Sad really. Suck it up buttercup.

No, it’s not a badge of honor. It’s an incredibly difficult path to walk. I used to be like you. It’s one of those “until it happens to you” deals that you won’t understand.

One of my kids is. The others are not. It’s been challenging.

This is how I am seeing it. People who have it or have kids who have been diagnosed should be angry at those who claim it so they have an excuse to get their way.

Since Autism is a social disease, its probably a guise to cover for their socially awkward behavior.

I’m not ocd because I like things neat, I’m a normal person. And kind of an a-hole.

Its epidemic. They believe their discomfort means you have to work around them. Its backwards.

The amount of symptoms that fit under the autism umbrella is crazy. Literally everyone could have one or more symptoms of Autism so anyone could have it. It’s weird.

I think he's more referring to the people who claim autism when they're actually just weird or awkward. People with legitimate autism are rightfully granted a certain degree of grace, understanding, and compassion. Weirdos are just weirdos, so I think some are trying to cash in on some accommodations given to the genuinely autistic.
