What was the reason for the objection? Why did 8 members vote against it?
Article is light on details.
because those 8 people have not received their checks yet

LA has a 20 cent state gas tax.
TX has a 20 cent state gas tax.
FL has a 26 cent state gas tax.
Now, let's do how much these people pay in state taxes.

Didn't want to pay a toll Want $2 billion bridge for free.
I’m all in favor or tolls but I don’t think a major cross country interstate is the place for it. And considering the cross country commerce that uses Interstate 10 from Los Angeles to Jacksonville Florida, which makes it one of the busiest most traveled highways in the United States , I do believe the Federal government should pony up more than its fair share.
And I would like to know how many are actual Louisiana vehicles that use it daily.

As important as the interstate is to commerce and how unsafe that bridge has become you would think Texas and Louisiana politicians would get together to fight for more government funding. Hell we throw away billions overseas every few months.

Didn’t congress recently pass one of the largest infrastructure spending bills in us history?
It’s is ridiculous I10 didn’t receive a bigger slice of that pie.

This is your new Governor's bidding. Elections have consequences.

Texas wants to disconnect from Louisiana anyway.

Yep it’s gonna take loss of life for it to happen.

No there isn’t, you don’t know wtf you are talking about. It’s under gone tons of renovation and fixed pretty much all the issues and is one of the most heavily monitored in the us
It still needs to be replaced. Doesn’t meat the standards for a interstate bridge
I know many will so no to the tolls but that is literally the only way this will every be built

210 was the one that had a reno a few years ago, not the I10 deathtrap. Unless there was one on I10 that was before or after 210 that I am not aware of, I left the Lake Charles area during the 210 reno.
There have been multiple projects on it the last 15 years after the minn bridge collapse
I drive it everyday and yall exaggerate on everything

That's simly false. In places like intercity? Maybe. Ever driven from KC to Topeka? Anywhere in Jersey? Or I-95 at all? IH system tolls are everywhere.
Nearly all (if not all) of the mainline interstate tollways existed prior to the interstate highway system. They were existing turnpikes that made sense as routes for major interstates.
The interstate system was intended to be funded without tolls, to the extent that the legislation creating the system specifically prohibited interstate highway funding from being used to build or maintain toll roads. However, it didn’t make sense to bypass all of the existing turnpike infrastructure in certain parts of the country. So Congress decided those turnpikes could become part of the interstate system in name, but without any federal funding.
There are some exceptions nowadays (such as HOV lanes) but for the most part tolls are only allowed on mainline interstate highways if they are already tolled.
I assume Lake Charles intended to skate this rule the same way Mobile tried to skate it a few years ago - by “rerouting” mainline I-10 over the other (non-tolled) bridge and changing the toll bridge route to a spur. Which.. OK, I suppose. It appears to be legal. But this idea that it happens all the time is false.

They were trying the find it via ppp. Essentially contractor builds the bridge and collects for certain amount of time to recoup investment plus his profit. It was being allowed due to alternative route of 210 being available.
It didn’t pass because the trucking companies raised hell because they were going to pay a lot more than everyday local citizen
And for the idiots on last page worried about traffic from a toll…..it’s not 1957, you don’t use cash. You never slow, you either have tag or they send you the fee in the mail

I'm not a fan of tolls. But for people who are opposed to tolls please tell me, realistically, how this bridge gets funded. We are never raising the gas tax in LA, and most of our other government revenue is constitutionally restricted. Same for a new BR area bridge.
