He's just so much better than the rest at pass pro.

Williams has been pretty reliable in pass protection. I think Diggs just gives you a lot more consistent production in the running game.

As an aside, has anyone else been super impressed with the blocking from our skill players in general? BTJ and Lacy in particular have both been very good blocking downfield. It’s awesome to see everyone take pride in it, as it makes the offense so much more dangerous as a whole.

We haven’t had a real SEC RB since Helaire left.

Ty Davis-Price was a real SEC back. He wasn't Fournette but he was solid.

Glad LD came South this year for playing time. At ND, they are loaded at RB this year....

Diggs has been so good that 3 seniors can't sniff the field.
yeah, Diggs is a good lil RB, but I don't agree with how they're using the RBs with mainly running him all of the time. LSU has too many good RBs to just be giving the ball to Diggs all of the time. Besides, that wears down a RB, using him exclusively like that. A. Goodwin, J. Williams, T. Bradford, and J. Emery are all proven reliable and good RBs to not be using like that. Kelly used a RB by committee system last season that was very effective. He should be doing the same thing this season because all of those guys will be fresh every time they touch the ball, and they'll wear down opposing defenses. Also, the K. Jackson kid looks like he will be a phenomenal RB in the future, none of these senior kids has Jackson's talent. Jackson to me will be another Fournette because he's the same size at 6'0 feet and 230 pounds of power that has track speed at that size just like Fournette did. This kid will have highlight reels like Fournette did once he starts running the ball regularly for LSU. But not using him right now is stupid to me, so, either give the kid some touches too or redshirt him or something.

We need to get Goodwin some touches. The rotation should be
1 Diggs
2 Jackson
3 Goodwin

The coaches are OUT on Emery even though he’s shown in the past he’s a very capable SEC RB. Williams and Cain just aren’t very talented. Bradford isn’t anything but fast.

He doesn’t have great top-end speed.

I disagree. The RBs behind him aren't that good. And it's because they don't have the vision/patience that Diggs has. I do think that Williams should get a few more carries or targets. It's clear that this staff trusts him, especially on 3rd and in passing situations. And Jackson will get more carries as he gets a better handle on the playbook.

I'm fully convinced that Goodwin, after missing most of fall practice with an injury, is taking a RS this year and transferring.

Emery doesn't seem to have his head in the game. When I think about Emery now, it's either him running the wrong route on a pass or running the wrong direction on a handoff. He is a drive killer.

So you want them to rotate 6 RB’s?

I completely disagree. You can’t, in my opinion, realistically rotate that many guys outside of garbage time/cupcakes. That means splitting first team reps with 6 guys - pretty important when you run a lot of zone read - and it means nobody gets into a rhythm.

Diggs has been fantastic. He’s great in pass protection, he’s very productive in the running game, he doesn’t fumble, and he rarely gets stuffed (something Emery, in particular, has had an issue with).

The fact that he always finds a hole and gets positive yardage is huge on its own. He might not have the home run potential of Emery/Goodwin, but he also doesn’t give you those 1-2 yard reps that put you in bad down/distance situations.

Also, our running game last year wasn’t all that productive. We were 7th in the SEC in yards per carry and 8th in rushing yards per game.

To me, the running game finally feels like it’s “clicking” for the first time in quite a while. It’s sucks for Emery and Goodwin but the unfortunate reality is that’s what happens when one can’t stay healthy (not saying that’s his fault) and another can’t stay eligible.

My opinion is that you ride Diggs, spell him with Williams, and use Jackson as RB3.

He's shown he's a very capable SEC RB on about 5 plays in 5 years. Otherwise, your statement could not be any more incorrect.

Williams and Cain just aren’t very talented.

Williams has done a lot of the same things Diggs has done this year, only Diggs is even better at it. Williams has great vision and balance, along with decent power. He's not a guy who scares defenses with the threat of a lighting strike 60 yard TD run every time he touches the ball. He's just a guy that does some many things well you help you win games. NOTHING epitomized that more than his block on Daniels's TD run in OT vs. Alabama. At the end of a long physical game, that guy is giving incredible effort to throw a block that helped spring the game winning TD.

Honestly, LSU would be just fine with a rotation of Diggs and Williams right now. IMO, the emergence of Diggs is the single biggest reason LSU's offense went from good to one of (maybe the best) offenses in the country. No longer can teams keep safeties deep all game to suffocate the long ball. And defenders can't just ignore the RB on the "read option" play LSU runs. If defenses don't account for Diggs LSU is happy to just let him pick up 7,8, 9+ per carry. Once defenses get tired of getting gashed by Diggs they are left in the unfortunate position of watching Nabers/Thomas run right by them or Daniels keep the ball for a 40 yard gain.

Jackson needs to be in the game much more imo. Diggs no doubt starts and gets the bulk of touches but we have to start getting Jackson into the games earlier and much more often.

I’d almost split the touches up 60-40. Let Jackson block a little and if he screws it up, Jayden can use those legs or get the ball off quickly but I really dislike the slow approach. Those comments about hold your horses, we want everyone to be superstars but they not there yet. I don’t think that way at all and it’s so Les frickn Miles. I can’t stand that. Let your talent play some football. Let them do their jobs.

Get Stamps, Toviano, Yaights, Jackson, Parker and Sampson into the games and let them go play. You don’t have to keep them in games the entire time but give those guys big moments and you might be surprised. Give them something simple but physical to do within the play calling. The one two punch of Diggs and Jackson would be a huge weapon that I’m just not sure why we not using at the moment?

This is where I’d showcase it for sure. This is the game we’ll need to be physical in and wear them out. It would be a surprise to Auburns defense if we start using both backs and our TEs in the first half and then bust them with the down field passing game in the second half. Use their own medicine against them.

Get Anderson more involved as well. They use him once or twice and then never again. You have to keep going to it for it to work. You have to use fakes off of those plays to fool a defense. Like instead of tossing the ball to Anderson when he comes across the QB, fake the toss and pass down field or have someone on the other side of the field to quickly pass to. Then when you actually give it to him the next time, the defense will not be so quick to react to the initial movement. Put two TEs on the field for this particular play, one outside, the other on the end of the LOS, and pull your quickest guard so you have plenty of blockers already there.

I love our offense but I can see things they can do to make it better now and build towards the future. Same with the defense. Stop babying these talented players and put them on the field to make some big plays! Build some excitement for this team and the recruiting will pick up.

Ironically, Emery will probably have a good pro career. Fast, can catch, and low mileage. Kinda like Kamara

And this is a big deal. If TDP has enough speed to get to the end zone against Alabama in 2021, we win that game. Almost the same as Diggs against Mizzou this year.

I was saying the other day how a few of the other "small" things have been so on point as well with the offense. particularly 2 minute drill and JDs awareness of offsides. There have been some wtf type things but for the most part they have been A+. I'll be interested to see what Denbrock and Co do with Nuss and new receivers next year.
