Company just forced this on me. All my settings gone.

Quick launch gone.
Taskbar doesn’t show open files/folders??

I’m pulling my hair out here. Windows 95 perfected the interface, and most of what’s been changed or added since then is garbage.

once you move the taksbar from the center back to the left, and figure out the new wording, it grows on you

I have 5 spreadsheets open. I hate aeropeek or whatever it’s called. I can’t see the files that are open or switch Between them without hovering and guessing based on a microscopic thumbnail.

This fricking sucks. You say it grows on you.. gimme one good thing about it

My users range from cant spell their own name correctly to a fortune 230 CEO...Its been almost seamless for everyone in between the two except for the few things i mentioned above..

sorry that you can't figure out how to line up five things on a page when it literally has layouts for you to pick

My wife didn't want to upgrade her super old laptop because she hated Windows 10 vs Win 7. For $6 I installed some software that lets you rework the interface to a more classic style. It is well worth $6 if you can't handle the interface changes.

How are you with reading? Because I just opened 5 workbooks and it has the name of the book over each thumbnail.

Unless you're a Book1, Book2, Book3 guy, this seems like a nonissue.

The name does help, It’s just that a hundred times a day I have to hover, wait, scan, and click, whereas as before I could switch in half a second.

I can’t install addons bc it’s a work computer. That would be nice if I could…

I did read that they are about to release an update that will allow you to stop the windows combining. Like every version since ‘95. fricking idiots

Look for Explorer Patcher in Github
"Make PC Look Like Windows 10"
Maybe IT will permit it. Nevertheless, archive because it's handy and a freebee. I have it on my laptop.

It's there, you just have to set it back up. MS has been pushing toward the Mac look/feel for a long time, the 11 taskbar is just the latest victim.

Right-click on your taskbar then scroll down to "Taskbar behaviors" and set the alignment to Left.

For the shortcuts on your taskbar, you will have to go into your Start menu, right click on the icon for that program then click "Pin to taskbar" (this is what you had to do in 10 as well, but your IT crew may have something to do that with your most often used programs set up in the default image).

If you're like me and want to see certain background programs in your systray (like Steam, A/V program, etc) you hae to manually turn on each one from the "Other system tray icons" area.

It sounds like your IT department probably mis-managed or under communicated the upgrade.

You can both pin programs to the start menu, and to the taskbar to recreate the quick launch experience.

Someone already mentioned WindowBlinds from Stardock software, and they also have Start11 which allows you to futz around with the task bar and start menu. Just make sure IT will let you install it before you buy it.

Personally, I have used Fences for program and icon organization for over a decade.

I like the OS, though I do prefer the classic Control Panel over the Settings app that we've been forced into. To be fair that's probably more of a Win 10 complaint.

Windows 2000 Professional was peak Windows.

Stardock WindowBlinds still exists? Jesus, I was using that like 25 years ago to pimp out Windows 98. I quit using it when XP came out and you could hack uxtheme.dll to load custom themes.

Right click the taskbar. Click taskbar settings. From there you should be able to adjust most things back to like they were .. unless your IT department locked those settings.

Overall its basically the same as it was since vista, but they finally FINALLY added tabs to it with one of the most recent CUs.

I don't disagree. I recently just replaced win11 with a fedora install on my work machine. Im much more comfortable in GNOME anyway. I tried to give win11 a fair shot, Alas I lasted just about a year.
