I do prefer the classic Control Panel over the Settings app that we've been forced into

I prefer it as well so I'm happy to say the Control Panel still exists. Go to your search bar and type in Control.

Also, you can right-click on some open space on your desktop, go to Personalize. From there click on Themes then Desktop Icon Settings and put a check in Control Panel to have the shortcut on your desktop.

My company laptop is still on Windows 10 (and locked down), and my personal computers and laptops are on a mix of Windows 11 and Windows 10 (and one which is still on Windows 7 ). While I like a lot of the organizational improvements in Windows 11, there are some inexplicable changes to Windows 11 that will make it worse for my day-to-day business use when we are eventually upgraded to Windows 11. A couple of examples that seem minor but these minor quirks add up:

1. In Win10 when a notification pops up in the lower right corner, if I press "Dismiss" the notification disappears and does not get added to the notification list. In Win11 if I explicitly get rid of the notification it still gets added to the notification list (IIRC). When I click on the right side of the task bar to look at the notifications list, in Win10 the "Clear all notifications" link is in the lower right corner of the notification panel, just above the cursor, so it's quick and easy to clear the notifications. In Win11 the link to clear notifications is now in the upper right corner of the panel so it's more difficult to reach. Seems like a minor difference but I get so many notifications on my work laptop that I frequently look at my notifications and clear them, so this function will become more annoying when we go to Win11.

2. In the Win10 Start menu the full list of apps is immediately available. In Win11 you have to move the cursor to the upper right part of the Start menu panel to open the full list. I get that they want you to pin apps to the start menu, but Win10 offers both and they clearly made the Start menu worse in Win11. I don't have the option for add-ons like Stardock on my work laptop so I'm not looking forward to the upgrade at work (which is coming soon).

3. Windows Explorer somehow gets worse and worse. I can't explain how fricking annoying it is to use. I've been using PowerDesk Pro for years, but unfortunately it appears to be a dead product because they never updated it to support Windows 11 and it just doesn't work. So I get by with Windows Explorer and it annoys me every day. I know there are a lot of file managers available, but the last time I looked they all looked annoying to me compared to my old workhorse PowerDesk Pro. I will eventually settle on something because Windows Explorer just doesn't cut it.

4. Microsoft clearly has added selling newsfeed space to their Windows 11 revenue model. It looks so unprofessional that they take money from anyone so there is a mountain of bad propaganda sources pretending to be news. I haven't seen yet what the corporate version of Windows 11 looks like yet but I assume this will be a more controlled environment.

Meh. Just go with it, you get used to it.

For people frustrated, remember search is your friend. I never "navigate" to anything. Just punch the windows button and start typing "Word" or "network" or whatever program/setting you're looking for. It's pretty good, and pretty fast.

Everything I said about search has been true for Win 10 for a while too.
