Subway’s about to start throwing bread on the menu to circumvent this, I’d think.

When you come to the understanding that all democrats want societal collapse, then you’ll understand their actions better.

It’s not Subway that is behind the bread making carve out.

The evil big corporation here is Panera. I always have looked sideways at Panera. They just suddenly appeared everywhere overnight basically so they have to have shady money and support backing them.

The result is less employees and worse customer satisfaction but many consumers don’t deserve a good experience these days anyway..

Without the courage of your convictions these companies are now fricked

Many of these are franchises owned by small business owners... It isn't the corporation closing their doors and walking away from California but people that rely on their franchise to make a living...

Now, if I were in a position to do so, I would sell my franchise and walk away... Possibly buy another in another State somewhere...

I sold my businesses and my interest in two others during Obama's second term... I was tired of using my money to create jobs and pay taxes to a government that looked at me as an "evil rich man" and people that think they are owed a job...

I believe you will start to see more and more of that as we move forward...

Had these companies gotten together and said if this law passes we are shutting down and then actually followed through it would have created the ripple effect of having everything changed be more appropriate The UAW and the other unions including the UPS union have given the ultimatums and the other side has caved

Producers are prohibited by law from organizing together to achieve a common goal. Think of energy companies and what havoc they could wreak conspiring against consumers or employees.

Companies have to come up with their own strategy without contact with their competitors, supposedly.

I went to a McDonald's in Manhattan that has 4 or 5 kiosks when you walk in the door. They have a small counter with a couple of workers who call the order numbers and hand the order to the customer. I don't think you could order from the counter.

Be awesome if every single fast-food joint in California shut the doors and closed down.

This will result in changes in the fast food world.

Chains will melt down, more robotics will replace teens first jobs, older workers will come in, more single family owned franchise restaurants will emerge, prices will rise.

The new fast food workforce will be 3 cooks, 5 robot kiosks. Workers are kicked to the curb, and overall personnel overhead costs drop with less bodies employed. Big chains make more money with less payroll and create increase in item costs under the guise of the new min wage. The rich get richer. Many are too stupid to see whats happening.

And fast food companies won’t restrict the price increases to California. They will spread it out nationwide. Thanks California.

Are biscuits counted as bread? Thinking about Popeyes, and the the burger joints that have a breakfast biscuit sandwich. Put plain biscuits on the menu all day.

The problem with this exemption is that if Panera is paying $18 per hour and McDonalds is paying $20 per hour, McDonalds should be able to get better employees and Panera will eventually need to increase their wages if they want the top level fast food staff.

BTW, according to the law, what's the definition of a fast food restaurant? Can they just hire a wait staff to lower wages?

AB 1228 applies to fast-food chains with at least 60 locations nationwide — except for those that make and sell their own bread.

Chick Fil A makes their own biscuits for their breakfast service. I wonder if this would allow them to be exempt.

there is a new McDonalds here in DFW that is nothing but kiosk.
Another by the house as a register and a few kiosk. It takes longer to get the order in at the kiosk than it does just talking to somebody. I refuse to use them, they suck

The new AB 1228 legislation, or the Fast Food Franchisor Responsibility Act, will give fast-food employees in California the highest guaranteed base pay in the industry nationwide.

California is about to have a wave of unemployment in fast food restaurants.

They can certainly try but higher wage prices is less a problem for CFA than other restaurants. They tend to pay more but expect a lot more out of their employees.

Absorbing the difference between $15 and $20 per hour isn’t great but it is a lot easier than absorbing the difference between $10 and $20.

"The guy who works the robots": Was in Las Vegas last year, stopped at a Mc'D's for a pit stop. A huge place: 2 humans; every other part of the process were all robots. Asked the mgr & he said this was the ultimate goal for 2025 at the latest, state-wide. Said one of his friends was a long time mgr at a Wendy's there & Wendy's 2 year plan was similar.
