Why wisconsin or idaho when there are really cool affordable towns around glacier montana or jackson wyoming.

Not in the towns but cheap stuff within an hour of both of those places

I'll also throw out Frankfort, MI.

You at least have a couple breweries and restaurants in town. On Lake Michigan. Easy drive to Traverse City, Glen Arbor, Sleeping Bear dunes. Close to inland lakes - Crystal Lake, Platte Lake, Little Platte lake.

The west side of the lower peninsula of Michigan is effing awesome.

My ex-girlfriend's family has a place on Lake Michigan in Holland and it's stunning over there.

St. Joseph, Michigan was a cool little town to hang for several days.

I'm moving to Astoria, OR as soon as my retirement lets me.

It's almost spring-like year round.

Northern Michigan around Gaylord, Grayling, Indian River, Petoskey, and Cadillac can be nice. If you want more rustic the UP along Lake Michigan is nice.

The cheaper of the Northern Great Lakes is Lake Huron. In around Alpena and from Tawas City to Cheboygan.

Look into higher elevations at Colorado past the Front Range (Tabernash/Fraser/Granby/Grand Lake). A lot of summers they never get past 80.

Also, look into the Atlantic coast of Maine, anywhere near Bar Harbor. We went at peak or summer (Aug 21st) and it was a high of 75.

The other question, is there a better way to look other than ABNB and Vrbo? Seems like both the renter and owner would benefit avoiding their fees

Furnished Finder. It’s like the original VRBO. It was designed for traveling nurses. But we use it on two properties and have had only one traveling nurse in the year we’ve been on it.

You can just deal directly with the owner for payment and lease.

Go to Brazil. The USD stretches like hell. $5 uber rides and $20 at the grocery store plus summer here is winter there.

I’d go an hour or two west of Chicago so you can fly home easily for weekend and have tons to do if you ever went to town.

Every year I have a conference in Kansas City in August. It’s just as hot as Louisiana that time of year.
