How stupid are you? The entire position of the party is “states determine their own laws on this” and Miss Lindsay attempting to push this in 2022 is blamed for the Dems doing better than expected. Would I like this to be law? Yes. But it isn’t what the party needs and taking a stand on this so far out from the election would be a transparent “gotcha” to explain any irregularities on Election Day.

Trump is the one trying to make this a Federal issue and is already saying 6 weeks is off the table and 15 weeks is iffy. That's his starting position but he does think that Democrats being happy is important.

That's HIS words not mine.

Not if Trump has his way. He wants to be the hero that finds this magic solution that makes everyone happy and do it with a Federal Bill. That's what he just said.

I am wholeheartedly against abortion. But at this point in my life, it’s clear to me that it is not something that can be effectively legislated. Outside of providing zero funding for it.

The Federal Govt needs to stay out of it. Conservatives cannot make the argument that abortion is a state right to overturn Roe, then turn right around and push for a Federal ban.

frick off with this. If it’s a state’s right, then that’s what it is. Don’t be slimy and try to have it both ways to suit your opinion.

Why can’t conservatives just take their huge W on Roe and shut the frick up going forward?

“Republicans” (GOPe) want it to be an issue.

They believe it allows them to control their voting base.

Trump is going to be the nominee and has my vote in the general. But how can all the only Trumpers keep living in denial?

And why make a any deal when the Supreme Court has already decided the issue?

Only Trumpers make Democrats look rational.

I wish Republicans would just drop the damn issue already. They got what they wanted with Roe being overturned not just leave it to the states.

The Supreme Court said that the Supreme Court can't create the right and it was up to Congress to act. So it's still potentially a federal issue.

While this is true, the (D)'s have had 4 years to replace Kamala

Seems neither side is too bright these days.

Abortion is settled. The SCOTUS rightfully nullified Roe vs. Wade due to the absence of a Federal Law banning abortion.
Therefore, it becomes a State’s Rights issue. As it should be.
There really is no need to have a Federal Law.

“The best line of attack Republicans have against Trump is electability. Every time they attack Trump from the right on issues like war, Social Security/Medicare, abortion, COVID-19, they are essentially arguing they would be less electable than Trump rather than more.“

The Supreme Court said that it was not a federal matter as described (and protected) under Roe because that was a bad interpretation to make Roe legal.

One of the conservative justices (Kavanaugh I believe) wrote in a concurring opinion that the Federal government could pass legislation that restricts or protects abortion and it could pass muster with the court. They had just never done so before because Roe was law.

There needs to be a heartbeat bill. Once the heart is beating, then the baby is truly alive.

You typically have a heartbeat around 5 weeks of pregnancy. Most people may not even know they are pregnant at that point.

Not a viable solution if you are aiming for compromise (imo).
