I know a guy whose balls swelled the size of grapefruits. Entire balls/penis/pelvic region was black n blue for two weeks. Doctor botched the procedure and had to redo it

2/10 for me

I remember the doc played Journey on Pandora and I read the news on my phone while he snipped away.

1-2. Kinda surreal talking to nurse and doc on a dopey valium high while seeing puffs of smoke come from sack as they cauterize the cut tubes.

Procedure doesn't hurt at all. You'll have a dull ache for a few days afterward.

I did mine on a Thursday during football season when LSU was on the road. Wife and kids went out of town, so I watched football and drank beer all weekend with frozen peas on my crotch half the time.

Not much pain. But the smell of your sack burning is something that will never be forgotten. Traditionally best done on the Friday of the Masters so you have the excuse to lay up, frozen pea your sack, and toast Tiger one hydrocodone at a time.

1 on the scale for pain. 10.5 of the smell of burning sack.

Doesn't really hurt. You're numb during the procedure but after a few days it's gonna look like a batch of blueberries exploded in your lap. Bruising is a little unsettling at first. Although full disclosure. It's been about 20 years since I had mine. I'm guessing the procedure has evolved to some degree.

The humiliation can be the worse

My old boss got his cut. His neighbor was a Nurse at the local nursing school and barged into the room while he was butt arse naked on the table with his dick taped to his stomach. He was embarrassed to say the least, but it gets better.

SHe brought a class of student nurses that were friends with his daughter. They peered over the teachers shoulder and asked him “ how are you going Mr Howell? How’s your daughter?” He didn’t have much of a response.

I’ve had shoes hurt worse. Had mine done in 1994. Copay for insurance was 10 bucks.

It will hurt if you don’t wear the compression shorts then take your kids to a swim meet in 100 degree heat while suffering through forced volunteering. If you stay at home and do what you are supposed to you will be fine.

The key is to take a Valium and a pain pill just beforehand. My doctor prescribed both and I didn’t have a care in the world . I didn’t really have much pain afterwards. Just take it easy for 2 or 3 days .

most will say pretty low.

mine was actually painful. one of my boys likes to stay closer to home so the doctor said we're going to knock you out for it. not because you'll fell pain, but you're going to feel us getting up in there.

day 1 was ok other than a mild passing out incident mostly unrelated ( i can't pee standing up when i'm groggy or have a low heart rate)

day 2 was a a dull pain like somebody had kicked me in the balls 30 minutes ago for 24 hours.

3 at worst. Make sure you have a few bags of frozen peas to rotate putting on it. Helped me. Balls got a little purple and there was an ache but nothing real bad. Shot down there felt like a mosquito bite. Now if he has to give you a second shot due to the first one not numbing totally, then that second shot hurt more than the whole procedure or recovery.

Make sure you look for someone who does the "open ended, scalpel-free" vasectomy. It massively reduces pain and has a higher success rate.

Just a quick blast from an aerosol type painkiller in each nut and about a 10-15 minute procedure. No pain killers, no IV etc. Just a heads up that the second one hurts more than the first, but goes away quickly. Doc had a TV on the ceiling that had ESPN on. Just watched that for a few minutes and all was done.

Had no swelling, no pain or discomfort. I was actually on a plane for a work trip 24 hours later.

Every once in a while, for about 4 months, I'd get a dull soreness for a few minutes. Doctor assured me it was normal and it went away permanently shortly after.

Ehh. Not so much. The reward is that you have to go through several "elimination cycles" to clear out the plumbing, and then you don't have to worry about that ever again. What can the wife say? It's doctor's orders!
