city like Alex can be an ok place to leave if you’re like me and don’t have to be entertained at night. I’ve got a steady job, a nice house, 2 pretty good golf courses only 10 minutes away, numerous hunting/fishing spots within 45 minutes, some good friends, and enough places to eat out since I only do that about once a month anyway. My 3 kids received a pretty good public education, I can be anywhere in town I need to be in 15 minutes or less due to minimal traffic, I’ve been pleased with my doctors and medical providers. Now if someone wants a nightlife or social life, not much of that. But I’m beyond that in my life at this point.
this is Alex in a nutshell. It’s a middle size town that lives much smaller based on your social group.

This entire state is a shithole. I’m partially embarrassed to be from here.
yeah. This thread always delivers. I have had a great time in all the mid to bigger cities. I also think all the mid to major cities are trash filled nasty places with pockets of niceness

Most would be great to live if we could get rid of the citizens of this state that ruin everything nice that has ever been built

How in the actual hell have we gone 6 pages without a single mention of Lake Charles and/or Westlake? Or is it that they are so dreadful that everyone has blocked them from memory?

Shreveport gets a bunch of well deserved shite, but I'd put the food scene up towards the top in the state.

I would have to say Buras, Triumph, Venice or anywhere in Plaquemines Parish. But to their credit, Plaqueminers have balls, continuing to stay there and survive, even though that entire parish will be submerged in 10-15 years thanks to a warming world and rising sea level.

Alexandria is one of those places that I can’t understand why anyone with free will lives there?

I'll go with Marksville. Been there once and it was depressing. That crappy casino in the middle of a poor part of the state just sucks money from people that don't have it. Beyond that, there is nothing there.

In suburban s-holes, like Avondale or Waggaman, at least you're a relatively short drive from decent shopping, restaurants, and bars.

Not even close. Not much to do, but never had any issues. Lived here for 35 years.

What’s their local law enforcement like?

What’s that????

Yep. That’s what it’s like.

Put it this way: the mayor was stealing Concordia Waterworks and the fine people of Fday blind. He got caught, the towns CPU’s got confiscated and he went to jail… BUT, that ain’t the end of the story. When he got out, the fine folks of frrdyy RE-ELECTED him as mayor!!!!

All you can do is laugh…

With the exception of Lafayette and Mandeville, pretty much every other LA city has a poverty and crime rate that’s >50% higher than the national average. Yes, that includes Lake Charles too.

Demographics is everything.

They’ve predicted that by 2100 almost 90% of South Louisiana will be underwater, so take it for what it’s worth.

What exactly does Ellic offer?

Four+ freshwater impoundments within 15 minutes. National Forest very close by. Two public golf courses that are generally in very good shape. Four disc golf courses within 15 minutes. Low traffic. Two breweries. Centrally located do access to Laffy/Shreve/Mon/ is super easy. I really can't name a negative.
