They really fricked up Toby’s character in my opinion. He actually had some relatability and sympathy until they decided to turn him into a creep.
For sure. I don't know if he just didn't know how to write for the character after Michael was gone or what, but giving him the strangler obsession and pairing with Nellie drug him down.

quote:I don’t know man, I don’t see a lot of redeeming qualities in Pam outside of aesthetics. She’s engaged to Roy and openly flirting with Jim without concern so they turn Roy into an abuser as some type of justification. She is also quite the narcissist for being a damn receptionist at a struggling paper company. Then toss in her lack of support for Jim and messing around with the boom mic guy, I think Pam is pretty shitty.
I’m surprised to hear Pam so much. Don’t get me wrong, those last couple of seasons when she was unsupportive of Jim and then the boom mic guy were awful, but throughout most of the series her character was much better than that.

Jim is pretty bad. He literally tortures a guy who obviously has Asperger's. The interaction with Dwight in "The Fire", when Dwight is listening to REM in his car, shows just how shitty Jim and Pam acted toward others.
Erin was just too damn low IQ to be funny. She literally only had a pair of factors that made her tolerable.
Robert California had the best lines of the series. You can see that Spader is just on another level compared to the other actors, who relied more on improve throughout the series.

He has some great lines but his character arc is incredibly stupid.

I liked the California character. Spader was obviously having a blast playing him

James Spader is obviously an amazing actor but the Robert California character started off amazing and took a high-dive into shitsville and was bailed out by David Wallace.

My favorites:
#1. Jan. I think she killed every scene she was in. I think having her be the serious branch manager (as opposed to Michael being a clown) would have still resulted in a really funny show. It’d be closer to the Workaholics set up which was good too. Michael being made to be too much of a buffoon made it too unrealistic.
#2. Dwight- was really the star of the show IMO. Indispensable.
#3. Angela- all of her stuff was always funny
Characters that could have been gone and nobody notice
#1. Creed added nothing.
#2. Phyllis - I don’t think I ever laughed at any of her stuff

That was the whole point. Even he didn’t know why he was there. But every single one of his lines is hilarious and that’s why he was there.
I sort of get the late Pam hate, but early Pam was pretty integral into a lot of Michael’s moments.

My favs are Michael, Dwight, Creed, Meredith, and Ryan.
I hate Nellie, Jim, and Pam, Idris Elba's character.

Dwight has the best arc in the shows run. He develops from yes man to an actual leader and you see he finally makes the jump from not only caring about the job but also the people that are a part of it.
I like Jim. I like what he goes thru, his desire to do more, and having the balls to take the chance. Pam turned out to be a terrible character. She shat on Jim’s dream and basically made him give it up because she was afraid to leave her easy predicable life in Scranton while ignoring Jim’s support of her art school boondoggle, her leaving Dunder Mifflin during Michael’s Jerry Maguire moment and other all about Pam issues. And, she basically cheated on Jim with Russ Hannamen.
Early series Andy was great. Ed got too busy and they just didn’t know what to do with him anymore.
Ryan is incredible as a supporting character. BJ is a tremendous writer and you could tell was having a ton of fun playing Ryan at his worst.
Michael is unique in sitcoms because he has a great story that develops to a really satisfying ending. The follow up for Dwight’s wedding in the finale was perfect.
Overall, this is such a great show. Sad that the second to last season really exists in such a way that to me said the cast was not confident enough to think they could carry the show without Steve.

I'll never get this take on the Jim/Pam dynamic.
He invested way more money in the start up company than they had discussed. He was essentially using his time in Philadelphia as an escape from family life, leaving her at home with two kids.
Using his support of her going to art school as a counter argument, they weren't married and they didn't have kids. It was a completely different dynamic.

I don’t know about worst characters, but Idris Elba as Charles Miner was extremely disappointing. He was extremely unlikable

Well these are just some awful takes. Remove Michael as boss and put Jan in and you think that makes the show funnier?

Robert California gets a lot of hate, but the pool party episode at his house is a hidden gem in that era.
