Clothes to wear on overnight flights

What’s your go to when going on a long haul or overnight flight?
I’m terrible on overnight flights and always struggle to sleep.
Finally found some linen drawstring pants with an elastic waistband that seem pretty promising. What’s your go to?

Joggers, compression socks, long sleeve dri-fit hoodie and a fleece vest
I normally put my shoes in my carry on bag and put slippers over my compression socks if I am not sitting in a class where they are provided

Aim is to be comfortable on overnight flights. For me that usually means a softer T-shirt, grabbing a sweatshirt or two to use as an eye cover/pillow (I don't do well with sleeping with lights on), shorts (no belt), and easy to slip off shoes. Planes usually start off hot then get cool so air vent open all the way as soon as I get on. Preflight a quick trip to the restroom for deodorant, Advil, and a toothpaste brushup (all taken in carryon bag with easy access)

(I flew in coach 99% of the time internationally.)
If you're in coach internationally, there's not much you're going to be able to do, except drink more, and embrace the suck.
Not sure how old you are, but we should start with compression socks.
Use SeatGuru and do not do dumb things like book seats that have limited footwell access because of In Flight Entertainment (IFE) boxes stored in the seat in front of you, etc.
Get an inflatable butt pillow. Do not inflate it completely, maybe 75%. Almost every Star Alliance flight I've been on internationally has had "wings" on the head rest, so the neck pillow that everyone uses backwards seems to be irrelevant.
For clothing, it's breathable over all. Certain airlines/captains of non USA carriers will keep the cabin at 75 ish degrees, which is way too warm for me.
I think loose is the overall key. Fly in a fishing shirt and breathable cargo shorts. Have a less causal shirt if you need to in your backpack carryon, if you need it upon landing. Linen pants are great, but you're going to be wrinkly AF upon landing. Loose weaves, even in synthetics, are key. If you get your linen pants scarred with sweat stains on the way to the gate, you're not drying out for quite a while. Besides, Linen is expensive as a AF to clean/launder. You also need pockets for passports, etc., and linen generally isn't good at being a pocket. I travel in TruSpec Pants, but normally wear their shorts on the daily.
Yes, very tactical looking, but I put my ticket in the same pocket, passport in the same pocket, etc. They're not hotter than their shorts. If you have compression socks on anyway, it's a total temperature wash.
If you wear contacts, it's a major upgrade to your experience if you pull your contacts out and switch to glasses when you board, and only put contacts in right before you land.
Don't underestimate how good a quick shave and a brushing of teeth will make you feel, especially before landing in the morning at the destination.

Had my first overnight flights this summer (3 of them, one to Europe, one to New Zealand, one from Australia to L.A.)
The ones to/from "down under" were WAY long, 13 hrs.
I don't like to look like a total bum when I fly, so all three times I wore khaki elastic band/drawstring dress shorts, and a comfy collared golf/polo type shirt (untucked).
Shoes were broken-in, slip-on Sperry Topsiders, which I could kick off.
Was very comfy, but it is hard for me to sleep sitting upright. I usually sleep on my side, and while I slept some, I didn't get any real, deep REM sleep with dreams.

Lulu pants and shirt. Not only comfortable, but, don’t look all wrinkled when landing. Also bring a dry fit Nike hat for bed head.

WTF?? I spent 16h55m from LAX to Melbourne (after 4h+ from IAH). 12h30m to TYO is a vacation compared to that. I spent 2.5 days in Melbourne. Awesome, got the 6th continent.
OP, I think the question you may be actually asking is how not to be f@*$ed up upon landing. To me, the time change is bigger. Boarding door closes, my watch goes on to destination time. If it's 0900 at the destination, I will stay awake. If it's 2100 at the destination,. I know I have a few hours to get sleep in, and then it's over. I'll stay awake and suffer to adjust to the destination faster. Flying to Tokyo from IAH, for instance, there is one that lands before lunch at Haneda, and another that lands at Narita around 1500, and takes a 2 hour bus ride to get to where I say. I pick the latter flight, because all I need to do is unpack in an hour or so, stay awake until the sun goes down, and then I'm adjusted on day 2.
I can easily stay awake until it gets dark if I land in the afternoon, but if I landed before 10-11AM, I wouldn't have a chance. Program in your fatigue, use it to your advantage.

I'm the same.
I put an eye-mask on, noice cancelling headphones with a white noise mix, hoodie over the head and a solid neck pillow and I can catch a few hours.

-Loose fitting corduroy pants (mine are cords, but baggy "dad khakis" can work if you dont have cords)
-"tech" or fishing shirt, long sleeve. Having the buttons on the front and cuffs allow you to control your body temp. Plane temp is a crap shoot. Also the chest pockets are nice for phone, pen, candybar, etc...
-fleece vest. Full zipper is nice so you can regulate body temp or take off easily. Pockets for earbuds, etc... Can also put your wallet and passport in a side pocket and zip securely so you're not sitting on it for 6+ hours.
-ball cap to pull down over your eyes
-cheap foam earbuds just in case
-sunglasses on croakies so theyre easy to find and dont get smashed
-socks, you don't want to be barefoot
-slip on shoes
I usually bring melatonin 5mg. If you're up front, have a bourbon or scotch. Pop a pill or have a stiff drink and try to sleep.
I do this a few times each year so I'm pretty used to it and this is a solid combo.

Friend,
Few things disgust me more than people who do not wear business attire when traveling by air. You will never catch me flying in anything other than a suit and a tie. If it is overnight, I may take off my tie. I usually spend the flight to finish a book or two or to work on an post for the OT.
The idea that people are walking around in sweatpants or even put on pajamas during a flight is more repulsive to me than you could ever know. The notion that suits are uncomfortable falls on deaf ears here. If airlines held to dress codes like Galatoire's, traveling would be a far more pleasant and genteel experience. People would treat one another with more respect and would be so much more courteous. Ban alcohol and casual on planes and make flying great again.

What about when the airline provides those pajamas and offers them to you as they turn down your pod from sitting to laying?

Friend,
A waiter at Commander's Palace offered me a glass of champagne when I was three or four years old, eating an Easter lunch with my family. A serpent offered our ancestors a piece of fruit in the Garden. Hard drug dealers offer marijuana to God's children everyday.
There is a spiritual gift in discerning what is and what is not temptation. As Jiminy Cricket puts it, Temptations: they're the wrong things that seem right at the time, but, uh, even though the right things may seem wrong sometimes, or sometimes the wrong things may be right at the wrong time, or visa versa.
You will never see me in anything other than a suit on a plane. I do this as a matter of personal preference and as a service to society as a whole.
Yours,
TulaneLSU

Long sleeve super soft t-shirt, stretch jeans or khakis. Pretty straight forward for me.
