Harrison Ford as Han is a horrible example. Did he make the role iconic? Yes. But he was a damn carpenter for set design and this was his first role that meant anything.

Ford as Indy would be a better example but still not a great one.

Joe Pesci was nothing like the real life wisegy he played. The real guy, Tommy DiSimone, was like 25 years old, 6'4" tall and very muscular. He was a psychopathic killer but also the quiet type. Pesci was the opposite of that, although still a great performance.
