Rich black parents ask an academic to tell them why their kids are underperforming`

In affluent suburb of Oakland, prominent black doctors, attorneys, judges and business owners asked a University of California researcher to determine why white kids had a 3.45 GPA and their kids averaged a 1.9.
The highly respected academic concluded: culture.
The parents didnt like that answer.

My son's best friend from 1st grade to 12th grade is a delightful black kid. Great parents, great home life, and just a nice kid. However, he took a ton of abuse from the other black kids at school for the very reason mentioned here. He had 'too many' white friends and his speech was 'too white'. Seriously. It was disheartening.

Yep. The prevailing societal ethos/world view, especially given the social media of today's society, is virtually unstoppable for the best of parents. And this equation above does not even bring into the equation the Idea of a Spiritual Universe and that of the premise that we are up against "powers and principalities" (predatory Demonic Evil masquerading as "an angel of light/love) of the which on individual can overcome, minus help from 'Above'. IMO, such 'help' being that of one's total commitment to the Gospel of Jesus Christ (Universal Love) and the intercession of the Holy Spirit which protects and enlightens the minds of said 'Disciples', is the only successful option. Black or White or any Color.
The 'Jesus' thing is real. So is Satan. It's one or the other for the win.

It's an older article that I have not seen before. Congrats for finding it. Even though the article is dated from 2003, I believe that the same conclusion can be said today.

That was a great article. It really illustrates the problem. If these affluent families in a great, well-funded school district are having these problems, imagine the hell that an inner-city school is.

Yep. Generationally poor neighborhoods/communities will tend to hold onto such philosophies longer and harder then others (I chalk a lot of it up to being too insular to experience more of the wider world, or -if they do- they view it only through a lens which reinforces their stance).
I've told this story here before: Back in the mid-90s an old friend from high school was working as a sheriff's deputy in Ouachita parish. He responded to a call about a kid being attacked. Short version: young black male (pre-teen) attacked by other young black males (also pre-teens) for being "too white" (doing his homework, being respectful to his teachers, etc).
This is one of those offshoot behaviors due to the growth of the lack of responsible father figures in the home in the black community. There's no amount of "reparations" which will ever fix this. What's needed is more things like this (educated, young, black males trying to look beyond the rhetoric -actually looking things up during their videos- and in doing so making themselves into positive role models for young blacks). There has been an explosion of blacks conservative/libertarian reaction videos over the last 3-4 years. It's not "enough" but it's a step in the right direction by those who are in positions to do more.

Perhaps being pushed into prominence by affirmative action, didnt prepare these parents to raise children who could earn it. They just expected their kids to be pushed thru to prominence also. Specifically because being pushed thru the system didnt give them any kind of foundation toward actual achievement, that their kids could see and model for themselves
Its like a few supervisors I had when I was young. They were only promoted because of sex, or connections. So when you went to them for problem solving, they always pointed you to someone else. They didnt earn their role, and sure as hell werent passing on any critical skills to employees
