Friend,

The first car I remember father buying was this one from Benson’s on St. Charles Ave, which was named Stephen’s for its former owner.

Friend,

It was always hard to keep that light interior clean. Mother and I left many stains in that back seat. I sincerely apologize.

My first ride

1960 Chevy Biscayne in light blue. That thing was a tank. Straight six with an oil bath air filter. Took about 10 minutes to get up to 55mph.

I remember going to Ross Downing Chevy in 1984 with my grandparents to buy a new sweet custom van. There was a new c4 1984 Corvette in the showroom and we were all blown away that it was $25k.

Sitting for hours while dad went back and forth with the salesman on the price, then finally getting aggravated enough to walk out and gripe the whole ride home.

Or the hours of paperwork if you did buy one. But that new car smell and the pride of being driven to school the next day were worth the wait.

That was only in October after the first cold front...

Yea that seems high considering that you can get a new one today, 40 years later with a mid engine for 65-70.

Unless a kid needs some of that 800+ credit score. Next thing you know, you’re co-signed to a vehicle when you have everything paid off and just have the basic utilities bills every month.

Growing up in Bogalusa in the 1950s, the annual rollout of new car models was a big event. Almost everybody turned out to see what was new.

The showrooms were always great being able to see all the different models. The sales folks haven't changed much and remain on the negative side of a buying experience.

Look at this guy flexing that his parents could afford new cars. The first time I experienced the process of buying a new vehicle was when I purchased it myself :)
